2002: Fake Freedom Fries; 2022: Real Freedom Will Triumph. Flipping the 2002 GOP Model with Truth [1]

The pundits are mired in the swamp of “historical patterns” when it comes to midterm elections, repeating ad nauseum that the party out of the Presidency almost always wins the midterms. But 2002 is pretty recent history, and that year the party holding the Presidency took control of both houses of Congress. How did it happen? Exploiting post-9/11 trauma, Republicans built a phony case for war against Iraq by falsely linking 9/11 to Saddam Hussein, falsely claiming Saddam had WMD and tarring war opponents (and all Democrats) as traitors.
The narrative was dominated by Infantile idiocies like changing “French Fries” to “Freedom Fries” because France opposed the Iraq War.
Sadly, it worked: By the first anniversary of 9/11, a majority of Americans thought Saddam was responsible for the attacks. Democrats who voted against the Iraq War Resolution were branded as traitors or part of a “fifth column.” War heroes like Max Cleland were tied to bin Laden.
But, while
In 2002, l ies elevated over truth elected the R Congress. In 2022, the truth will triumph if we put in the work in these last few days .
Unlike Republicans, Democrats don’t have to lie to win based on Truth, Freedom and Justice. Nor do they have to resort to idiocies like “Freedom Fries.”
The Truth is Republicans in Congress have repeatedly voted to cover up the worst insurrection in the country since the Civil War and are tied to Putin and his genocidal war against Ukraine.
Freedom is really at stake because extremists on the Supreme Court, in Congress and state legislators are doing everything they can to take away our freedom to choose, to marry whom we want, even to use birth control.
Justice is at stake because we must stop perversions of it by election-deniers and racists.
So:
Also don’t forget to do what it takes to encourage massive youth voting, including efforts by Civic Influencers to help college voter activism and with The Civics Center for high school students.
