Wildfire Smoke in Olympia blocks view of State Capital buildings from only few blocks away

Smoke is thick in Olympia Washington today.

Air Quality Index just hit 208 where we are. It is worse just to the north of us.

208 is considered UNHEALTHY for everyone. not just folks who are disabled or at high risk. UNHEALTHY for EVERYBODY. old, young, pets especially. but everybody.

Inside our home, we are a bit better off than most. We have a really good air filter that removes almost all the smoke and particulates from the house.

But stepping outside the air smells like you are standing in the ashes of a big fire and it is still smoldering up around your feet rising to your head. smoke is thick. Trees less than 100 feet away are totally obscured.

Some folks in worse hit areas to the north are reporting AQI numbers near or even over 300.

I fear for the wildlife. Especially birds…. all the hummingbirds are especially at risk. I am filling up my bird baths and putting out some extra water, but I cannot do anything really about the smoke in the air.

Today the Puget Sound Area / Seattle / Tacoma is ranked as worst in the WORLD for air quality due to wildfire smoke.

some distinction hmmm. We are #1 ! yeah!!!

And.. OK… this is a lot cheesy… but I could not resist…. the song: “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes” by the Platters…
