Remember that one-size-fits-all doesn't work that well for many of us. If your masks are uncomfortable or loose, customize your straps for a better fit.

The COVID pandemic is not over. The CDC is reporting 2649 deaths per week (378/day, 137,748/year). New mutations that are unaffected by vaccinations, like the XBB “nightmare” variant, continue to arise due to the huge number of infections. 1.8% of the US workforce is sidelined by long COVID. Life expectancy continues its decline at a rate of about one year per year.

But one thing that's alive and well is gaslighting. The CDC data tracker no longer reports test positivity, which is one of the best indicators of the disease spread when the number of official tests declines and the number of reported cases declines as a result. Johns Hopkins no longer reports test positivity because 30 states stopped reporting testing positivity, so they have no national data to go by.

California continues to report test positivity, which remains stubbornly high at 4.1%. That means that if you're with 25 people, it's likely that one of them is infected right now, is completely asymptomatic and has no idea they're infectious.
