One of the joys of listening to music is al fresco sounds. Venues from large arenas to string quartets under the stars; that’s best. But it’s not always available; next best is reproducing the music on a personal device. Boombox on one’s shoulder worked, but possibly annoyed everyone around. iPods and Walkmans worked, but headphones gave a tinny and unrealistic sound. Then noise-cancelling headphones were introduced. From one’s iPod or phone the sound was very good.
With my former Android phone I could plug in my Bose headphones, and ask Alexa to play anything.My new phone is an iPhone. So delightful to sit on my patio and hear The Eagles and Allman Brothers and follow individual performers while all other outdoor noises were cancelled. The next step was Bluetooth, and the headphones have their own microphone.
I found it difficult to connect the headphones to Alexa, taking many steps in a certain order. With help from an Alexa phone rep, and many tries, we got it to work: no wires, push a button wherever I was, and say “Alexa, play Dire Straits”. It was fine….on and off. I had to repeat the procedure every once in a while.
My new iPhone has eliminated the headphone plug (why?). I have it working with Bluetooth, connected to my phone when it’s close, which is good, but the final step with Alexa (pushing the headphone button) will have to wait. I got tired of hearing “Open the Alexa app, and try again.” In 2022, patience with tech is a virtue.
