The right-wing inspired attempted assassination of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the accompanying violent assault on her 82 year-old husband Paul Pelosi (who is at the time of this writing undergoing emergency brain surgery for injuries sustained during the attack) has generated a flurry of condemnation and expressions of sympathy from multiple quarters in the Republican Party, including Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel.
Some of these gestures may be genuine, some may not. But one stands out in particular.
Glenn Youngkin, current governor of Virginia, was speaking at a rally with 7th District GOP candidate Yesli Vega this afternoon, when he decided to weigh in on the attack. In doing so he revealed just how little political assassination attempts directed to Democrats actually matter to him (and probably by extension, to many Republicans who actively cheer on and encourage violence towards Democrats, whether through dog whistles, “winking” assertions or other acts of stochastic terrorism).

As reported by the Washington Post:
“Listen, I want to stop for a minute and — listen — Speaker Pelosi’s husband had a break-in last night in their house and he was assaulted. There’s no room for violence anywhere, but we’re going to send her back to be with him in California. That’s what we’re going to go do,” Youngkin said. The crowd cheered.
The transcript doesn’t really do it justice. You really need to hear the flippant, dismissive tone in his voice: ”Send her back to be with him.”
The Fascist-in-a-Fleece clearly doesn’t give a fuck.
