I’m not sure how to start this.
I read the book.
But at one point I had to put it down (for at least six months).
I really really hated the extremeness.
But, I picked it up again to finish this most extreme of novels.
And tonight I watched the film again.
I made some notes,
‘America’, the beacon of hope and democracy,
Is broken.
Patrick Bateman (at this moment) is America. In its substance, its essence.
The only way to repudiate that claim is to vote and vote blue.
There is a couple of things that stood out —
If you’ve read the book, the business card scene is very important, this is the horror. The ego, the self-entitlement, the BDE, if you will, is the exact masculine BS that has got us into this mess.
The opening scenes of him explaining his ‘routine’ gives us an insight into the myopic nature of privilege.
And the inference of the music justifying his concept of ideology has parallels to the ‘ye’ist nature they all seem to like.
Vote the sedition out.
I’m not even sure that all makes sense.
My point is — Vote the Republican traitors out.
Rant. Over.
