We are entering the home stretch for the 2022 election and it is now time to turn out the vote. I have been a Muslim since 1989 and registered to vote as a Democrat since 2008. Obama’s campaign and promise of change brought me in from the Independent status I had signed up for at eighteen. I am encouraging all Muslims everywhere to vote for Democratic candidates. The primary reason being climate change. We have seen from the flooding in Nigeria and Pakistan, the famines of East Africa and the vulnerability of the Muslims of southeast Asia to rising seas; climate change is wreaking havoc across the Muslim world. When our brothers and sisters in Islam and in humanity are beset by such calamity, we are required to help them. Democrats have recognized the reality and challenges of climate change and are working to address it. Republicans have shown by word and by deed that they value the profits of the polluters over the planet and its people. No other issue should outweigh the preservation of our planet. This world has been given to us in trust and we need to fulfill that trust. Please, vote for Democratic candidates and encourage everyone you know to do so as well.
