While looking at the IRS rules for the Earned Income Tax Credit, I find this requirement list for what is a qualified child. One odd thing stood out
To be a qualifying child for the EITC, your child must be: Any age and permanently and totally disabled at any time during the year. For more information, see Disability and Earned Income Tax Credit. or Under age 19 at the end of the year and younger than you (or your spouse, if you file a joint return) or Under age 24 at the end of the year and a full-time student for at least 5 months of the year and younger than you (or your spouse, if you file a joint return)
I can only imagine the letter that someone had to write to their congresscritter that demanded that there be a restriction on getting the EIC on children who are both under 19 and older than the taxpayer. “I’m 18 and I just adopted my 18 year old son. Why can’t I get the EITC?!”
