IS it the economy, stupid? [1]

I wrote a story over the weekend. It was #1 on the rec list for a long time, and stayed on the rec list a lot longer. I said that I dont believe that women have just stopped caring about bodily autonomy all of the sudden. I didnt say that I dont believe that queers have forgotten that their lives are at stake, because it just sounds over-dramatic. But it’s true.
And what did I hear back? “It’s the economy, stupid.” Over and over and over and over again. I mean, yeah, a lot of people said, “amen” and “we wont go back”. But, yeah. It’s the economy, stupid.
Also, women listen to their men. They do what their husbands say. “Especially” in the Bible belt. Not “Exclusively”. But, yeah, here we are, 50 years past Roe, and some schmuck ON ONE OF THE MOST LIBERAL SITES IN AMERICA is coming at me with “women do what their husbands tell them”.
Like, wow.
Let me tell you something, with your privilege and your entitlement:
Women are not the property of men. Women are not slaves to men. Women dont just do what their husbands say. Even Edith Bunker didnt vote the way that Archie told her to.
You know what MAKES women slaves? What MAKES women property of men? Losing the right to control their body.
Ask any woman if they know that?
I’ll just wait here.
Go ask.
I mean, Im happy for you that you can live your life with the biggest worry being your wallet. Im happy for you that you think that gas prices are more important than bodily autonomy.
But 167 million women have been told that they are chattel, and whatever freedoms that they might enjoy and for however long, depends solely on whether they vote and whom they vote for.
And queers. We’ve been shown what our future holds, and it aint pretty.
So, take it from a queer non-binary person who has a uterus and a wife with a uterus: some things are more important than your wallet and how much you pay for gas, like whether we have to carry our rapist’s baby, and whether an ectopic pregnancy will kill us. And whether we’re slaves to our bodies. And to you.
And stop assuming that women agree with you. Maybe *ask* every once in a while.
