GOTV Texting / Easy, Effective and FUN!

I am writing this post because I have not read or heard any mention of this

user friendly way to help get out the vote. I’ve been reading Kos daily for the

past 6 years and have not come across it mentioned here or anywhere else.

The idea occurred to me years ago and I have been doing it every election cycle

since, so I think I would have spotted it somewhere.

Nevertheless, as it’s very likely I missed it, I feel it’s still worth offering again just in case.

I simply text everyone I can in my cell phone contacts list that I know are liberal

leaning, to remind them to vote and ask them to remind others.

The results have always been encouraging and as near as I can tell, effective.

I pre-write, copy, paste and, if I have the time, personalize the text to tailor it to what

I know about each friend’s political awareness.

For those in my election district zone, I compile ‘cheat sheet’ of

who and what to vote for, because I know from personal experience

that not knowing these will act as a deterrent to voting.

Because I contact friends and acquaintances, it’s actually a pleasure, as those who

respond do so positively and some thank me for providing the incentive.

When I tell people I am doing this, a common response is to assume

that because I am reaching out to like minded friends and acquaintances,

it is not really going to help.

This is a simplistic view that I don’t think is accurate. The fact that I know

them doesn’t make this less effective. To the contrary, I think it is a plus.

For me, this is time better spent than in my trying to sway arbitrary and mostly

polarized voters.

I have a very broad range of friends, most of whom are not as

focused on politics as I am or out of touch all together. In a

midterm election they are especially prone to skip voting.

So by focusing on that portion of our base that I have direct access to,

I can work more productively at getting people out to vote, who might otherwise let

it slide by. Furthermore, whether they would have voted or not, they also have the

option to pass the message on.

Recently MoveOn.org posted an article on Kos stating that a highly effective

way to GOTV is for each of us to contact just 3 friends and work to see

that they vote. The article said that this is more effective than phone banking. www.dailykos.com/...

I have no statistics to verify the effectiveness of my approach,

but I find it very encouraging that it relates so closely to the MoveOn

recommendation.

I am highly supportive of any and all GOTV methods and simply offer mine as

as an alternative that some may prefer, as I do.

If you are at all concerned but not involved in GOTV, becoming engaged

will go a long way to alleviate your anxieties as the election approaches.

It has been helping me enormously, which aside from trying to increase the vote,

is my reason for offering this idea.

I am praying for an avalanche of Democratic “snowflakes” to crush the

Absconder & Thief and all his minions.

Below is the general message I have composed for this election:

“I am writing to all my friends

because I am so deeply concerned about the mid-term elections.

If we are unable to hold onto our majority in Congress the results

will be catastrophic.

Democracy will be dismantled.

& the constitution neutered.

Fair elections crushed

& our freedoms incarcerated.

Biden’s progressive agenda sabotaged.

The press muzzled.

Ukraine abandoned,

NATO undermined

& Putin enabled.

The Traitor will be given a chance to escape

judgement and re-occupy the WH permanently

…and eclipsing all else,

Climate Collapse won’t be stabilized

in time to save our planet.

The midterms have historically suffered from low voter turnout.

Although this has improved of late, with what’s at stake

we can’t any take chances. Now more than ever, OUR VOTES COUNT!

I hope you will make every effort to vote and get others to.

Please feel free to text this message to everyone you know that

cares or use the information in it to write your own.

If you have the time, compile a list of who and what to vote

for in your district and share it, as people are more apt to vote

when they have this information. Google.

The League of Women Voters can be an excellent source.

Texting friends to increase voter turn out is,

from my personal experience, effective and one of the easiest ways

to help out. MoveOn.org recommends a similar approach.

In all likelihood you’ll actually enjoy it,

because you’re contacting friends and acquaintances,

many of whom will be happy to hear from you and respond positively.”
