(or history, or . . . ) Sorry to say, the Virginia Republicans are not sending their best. Or if they are, we’re in trouble.

Take Yesli Vega, for instance. (Please!) Candidate for Congress in VA 07. She is on tape as follows:

. . saying in leaked audio recordings that she wouldn’t be surprised if a woman’s body prevents pregnancies from rape because “it’s not something that’s happening organically,” and that the rapist is doing it “quickly.”

Evidently she is a student of Doctor Todd Akin (not a real doctor). Remember him? Quoth the former senator from Missouri:

“It seems to be, first of all, from what I understand from doctors, it’s really rare. If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut the whole thing down.”

Then they have this dude Robert Wittman, an actual incumbent from VA 01. He is on tape saying a contraceptive is a “chemical abortion.” Wittman claims to support access to contraceptives, though he voted to the contrary.

Aren’t you glad these people may be in the next Congress making decisions about women’s health?

Of course Wittman was one of the Members of Congress who voted to decertify the election of Joe Biden in 2021. He is being challenged in the midterms by Herb Jones. You can help Herb here.

Spanberger is a former analyst with the Central Intelligence Agency. Jones is a retired Army colonel. It’s rural Virginia, folks. It ain’t Brooklyn.
