We have a new project this week! This Texas teacher, in the San Antonio area, has a fifth-grade science class who need materials to help them explore STEM topics. This project currently has 2x matching funds from The Chuck Lorre Family Foundation: In celebration of Season 6 of Young Sheldon on CBS, The Chuck Lorre Family Foundation is thrilled to support STEM projects.

PROJECT #1 Project: STEM Resources to Support Our Future Inventors and Innovators Resources: Help me give my students Snap Circuit Jr. kits, Instant STEM Activities, books, and other STEM exploration opportunities. Economic need: An Equity Focus School; more than half of students from low‑income households. Location: Morningside Elementary School, New Braunfels, Texas Total: $736.56 (2x matching funds from The Chuck Lorre Family Foundation) Still Needed: $ 296.27 $186.27 ($94 from us) Project description by Mrs. Moreno: This year I want to add in more STEM-focused learning opportunities. I want a variety of STEM projects to introduce throughout the year to foster collaboration and problem-solving skills. The skills gained from STEM education extend beyond those needed to be successful in STEM fields, preparing children with varied interests who move into any industry to have valuable skill sets that allow them to be successful. 21st-century skills include media and technology literacy, social skills, communication, flexibility and initiative. Other skills attained through STEM education include problem solving, critical thinking, creativity, curiosity, decision making, leadership, entrepreneurship, acceptance of failure and more. No matter what they choose to do in the future, these skill sets go a long way to preparing them to be innovative and able to add value to a team. We’ve made tremendous progress with this substantial project, and we still have a couple more weeks to work on it!

St. John, North Dakota is just a few miles from the Canadian border. It’s a majority-Native town just outside the border of the Turtle Mountain Reservation, belonging to the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa people. Ms. Davis wants her second-graders to be able to use the 3D “pens” we’ve seen before to bring their creative ideas into being.

PROJECT #2 Project: Imagination Is Neverending Resources: Help me give my students the 3Doodler to have a creative mind, a sense of pride, and self-esteem, as students become true makers and innovators. Economic need: An Equity Focus School; nearly all students from low‑income households. Location: St. John School, St. John, North Dakota Total: $791.44 Still Needed: $ 477.91 $422.91 Project description by Ms. Davis: Ideas that result from free exploration are where learning naturally happens. Although direct instruction is necessary, students are much more likely to enjoy adding and subtracting when they can create their own counting sticks or doodle illustrations for tangible word problems. The 3Doodler allows students to share their ideas in concrete and visual ways. A student's imagination can be infinite when they are allowed to use their hands to create projects to better serve their learning. All ideas students have can and will be created with a 3Doodler pen. My students could create, design, and invent. DONATE HERE Donations of ANY size can make a BIG difference! Turtle Mountain people don’t have a very happy story, to the surprise of none of us. x YouTube Video I thought maybe we should take a look at the product being requested, too. x x YouTube Video

Our main project from last week was completed, just days before its deadline, with a huge assist from our readers! Project #1, Algorithmic Classroom Elegance: Ms. Sanders’ Oklahoma first grade, in the Seminole Nation, needed tools and games to help them improve their math skills. She writes: Thank you so much for your generosity! You have made it possible for me to bring various teaching tools into my classroom. These tools will allow me to present educational material in a variety of different ways allowing me to reach all learning styles. Your kindness is greatly appreciated. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of my students!

DonorsChoose has developed the designation Equity Focus Schools to describe some schools that submit projects. They meet two criteria: at least 50% of students are Black, Latinx, Native American, Pacific Islander, or multiracial, and at least 50% of students qualify for free or reduced price lunch, the standard measure for school economic need. You can read more at the link about their efforts to address the longstanding inequity in education.

Founded in 2009, The Inoculation Project combats the anti-science, anti-education push in conservative America by funding science, math, and literacy projects in red-state public school classrooms and libraries. Our conduit is DonorsChoose, a crowdfunding charity founded in 2000 and highly rated by both Charity Navigator and the Better Business Bureau.

Every Sunday, we focus on helping to fund projects in neighborhood public schools where the overwhelming majority of students come from low-income households. We welcome everyone who supports public school education — no money is required!

Finally, here’s our list of successfully funded projects — our series total is 998! The success-list diary also contains links and additional information about DonorsChoose.
