Clichés about Dems and Republicans are upside down. Let's set the facts straight.
I am forking mad at the mainstream media, which puts stories exactly upside down.
Everyone, repeat three times:
Dems fight inflation. The GOP wants more inflation.
Dems fight inflation. The GOP wants more inflation.
Dems fight inflation. The GOP wants more inflation.
Remember, repetition is good. Repetition is good!
Question: Why would Rs want more inflation? Because they only care about power, and they are more likely to keep or gain power if they can crash the economy.
Moreover, many of them do not care for the majority of Americans (let’s kill Social Security, etc). They may care most about their wealthiest donors. Some of them are in thrall to Russia or other foreign influences.
But, as we at Daily Kos like facts, what evidence is there for Rs’ desire to hurt the economy through increased inflation? And, what have the Ds been doing?
Democrats voted for the Inflation Reduction Act. Republicans voted against. No R votes. Nada. Here’s something you find in the IRA.
The Inflation Reduction Act will protect Medicare recipients from catastrophic drug costs by phasing in a cap for out-of-pocket costs and establishing a$35 cap for a month’s supply of insulin. And, as an historic win, Medicare will be able to negotiate prices for high-cost drugs for the first time ever. For union members or family members who benefit from the Affordable Care Act, it extends health insurance premium subsidies.
Medical costs hurt those most who cannot afford it. For some people, it’s a huge expense.
Democrats voted to cap the cost of insulin. Republicans voted against.
NBC News Christine Zhao
Republican senators on Sunday voted down a cap on the price of insulin in the private market, removing it from Democrats' sweeping climate and economic package. Democrats had tried to preserve the provision to cap insulin costs at $35 for private insurers, but that vote failed 57-43, with seven Republicans voting with them to keep the insulin cost cap in the bill, three short of what was needed.
Note this is for non-Medicare sales. Medicare could be kept in the bill without requiring the 10 senators needed.
Insulin is really inexpensive to produce. I’ve seen price ranges from $2 to $10. This is price gouging.
WASHINGTON, May 19 (Reuters) - The U.S. House passed a bill on Thursday that allows the U.S. president to issue an energy emergency declaration, making it unlawful for companies to excessively increase gasoline and home fuel prices. The bill must pass the Senate, which is unlikely, and be signed by President Joe Biden to become law. The legislation, sponsored by Democratic Representatives Katie Porter and Kim Schrier, passed the House 217 to 207, with no Republicans supporting it. In the Senate, evenly divided at 50 members in each party, 10 Republicans would need to support it for the bill to pass.
This despite the fact that the oil companies have been making record profits. Oil isn’t any more expensive for them to produce, but what with Putin’s war and MBS’s approach, the market has been difficult.
It did not pass the Senate.
President Biden improved the supply chain problems. Republicans — such as Greg Abbott — made them worse. On purpose!!!
Biden gets Los Angeles Port Authority to work 24/7 David J. Lynch Washington Post
President Biden said Wednesday that a new plan to keep a key U.S. port open “24 hours a day, seven days a week” would relieve pressure on an overworked supply chain that has frustrated Americans and blossomed into a major economic shortcoming. Speaking at the White House, Biden also hailed commitments from top importers such as Walmart, FedEx and UPS to use the extended hours at the Port of Los Angeles to remove shipping containers that have slowed freight operations. a 17-person “virtual roundtable” with port directors from Los Angeles and Long Beach, Calif., top officials from the Teamsters and AFL-CIO labor unions, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and other business groups. Abbott’s border antics cost the US 9 billion in 10 days Grayson Quay, The Week
Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's short-lived policy of requiring state troopers to conduct secondary inspections of trucks crossing into Texas from Mexico cost the United States almost $9 billion in just 10 days, Axios reported Tuesday. The policy, which Abbott enacted on April 6, snarled truck traffic at the border and led to a protest by Mexican truckers that stopped trade at some major crossings. On April 15, Abbott ended the double inspections, for which he'd received withering criticism from both sides of the border and the aisle, after striking deals with the governors of the four Mexican states that border Texas. Per Axios, Abbott implemented the policy "in response to the Biden administration's announcement that it would lift Title 42," a Trump-era public health policy that denied migrants entry into the United States.
Government doesn’t work when you fill it with people who are determined to stop it from working. You know, Republicants.
Remember, inflation is a global problem, exacerbated to pandemic / war / climate change. Despite this, the United States — thanks to Biden and the Democrats — is doing much better than other countries. For example, the dollar is stronger than it has been in a while. This means that goods are less expensive here than they are in other places.
I’m Preaching to the Choir.
Many Daily Kos people know these facts. However, they bear repeating. If we repeat them often enough, they will spread. The MSM might talk about them more.
You’re the choir. Rec this so more eyeballs see it. If you tweet, please tweet it — or use other social media and means to spread the word.
* Please, add more ways we have been fighting inflation below. I kept it short because I don’t want the TLDR syndrome to take over.
😄 Finally, something to make people smile, because we all need to smile.

🐦 I do a lot of other writing. A recent offering: Hunters of the Feather, a story about a thinker-linker crow who wants to save birdkind from extinction, and the sequel, Scavengers of Mind. (They’re really good! They’re really cheap! Buy and review or rate positively! And Hunters is also available on Audible!) Other stories, based on Jane Austen novels — including a new one for lovers of Pride & Prejudice, Mrs. Bennet’s Advice to Young Ladies— and others on Greek mythology, can be found here. All titles are available through Kindle Unlimited, but I only get paid if you turn the pages.
