DK Quilt Guild: A place for quilters to gather, share ideas, projects, and to make the world a better place, one quilt at a time. Join us and share your thoughts, projects, questions, and tips. Quilters here are atFl many different levels of skill. Beginners and non-quilters are welcome, too.

We NEED diarists!

Your diary can be elaborate and full of photos, a simple story of your own quilting history or that of someone you love, a discussion of a current project or a technique you're learning, new adventures... You could post quilt retreat-day recipes (things like crockpot meals, so food appears without much attention from you)...

We could do show and tell or open thread, also, but either way, we need diarists to host. It is EASY if you're willing to take the chance.

So this quilt isn’t exactly my latest quilt. My latest project was a commission that hasn’t been given to the bride yet, so this my most recent available quilt project.

The pattern is from Annies Catalog. My girlfriends wanted lots of blues. The pattern in Annie’s had a 6” plain center. I didn’t like that so I did a darker center with lighter around it. This pattern would be very easy to reverse engineer, but I don’t like stealing designers’ ideas. Also the Annie’s pattern had no borders, which I do not like. Something about borders I feel helps set off a quilt.

First step I had to redo the number for the size of the center so that it is 5 pieces not one and then do half square triangles, rather than flying geese, and add the corner squares.

And then just keep putting them together.

I kinda over did it on the number of 3.5” squares needed, but them can always come in useful somewhere else.

I liked using all different blues, specially with flowers, birds, or butterflies. I think just binding this without the borders would have been boring. So I added the plain yellow and mottled blue to set it off more.

My longarm person won’t have it quilted and bound until Monday, regrettably. I’ll have a pic to add next week

So what quilting projects are you working on?
