This might have been said before in Kos and elsewhere, but it cannot be repeated too many times. Democrats need to dispel two myths that Republicans and MSM have promoted for years: 1) The myth that Republicans are “good on crime”; and 2) the myth that Republicans are “strong on the economy.” The message combatting the myths can be short and simple.

1. The states with the highest crime rates are Republican states. This is due in large part to lax gun laws that allow terrorists, domestic abusers and criminals to have easy access to guns. According to stats, crime in general has greatly decreased since the ‘90s. But, if Republicans are going to emphasize violent crime as their number one issue, eight of the ten states with the highest crime rates are all Republican majority states.

2. Inflation is an international problem. The U. S. has one of the best economies right now due in part to the American Rescue Plan and the Inflation Reduction Act, neither of which were supported by Republicans. Instead, Republicans plan to implement Liz Truss’s economic plan, which has decimated the U. K. economy and forced Truss to resign as Prime Minister. In addition, Kevin McCarthy has stated that Republicans will refuse to raise the debt ceiling (shutting the government down) in order to force cuts to Social Security and Medicare. The last two big recessions occurred under Republican rule. Their economic plans depend on raising unemployment to help corporations have access to cheaper labor and cutting taxes for the rich.

Crime and the economy aren’t the only issues that Democrats can or should be running on, but they are the issues Republicans always return to as their strengths. That these are Republican “strengths” is a myth. Democrats need to expose the mega MAGA trickle down lies in a way that is both clear and simple for Americans to understand.
