Who here remembers a former ABC News correspondent named John Miller? Someone who was known for being the last Western journalist to interview Osama bin Laden, which he did for an episode of Nightline back in May 1998? Who at one point was Barbara Walters’ co-host on 20/20? And then suddenly, one day in 2003, no longer showed up there on your screens?

Well, since then, he’s mostly been a law enforcement floozy, most specifically counterterrorism, for the LAPD, FBI and most recently the NYPD. And used that period to stoke xenophobic rage, profile Muslims without mercy, and be an apologist for police misconduct.

Much like how people look at the descent of Lara Logan from 60 Minutes correspondent to raving conspiracy nut, Miller’s decline is quite sad.
Apparently, Miller supposedly left ABC because he felt undervalued throughout 2002, and given his proximity with investigating Al-Qaeda over the years, thought, “I know all this about them, I should do something with it.” But there has to be more to it than that, right?
Did he become this loathsome figure from 2003 onward, or was he always that?
