I voted No on only one thing. I thought it was a good idea, but I couldn’t figure out how it would be implemented. Yes, I went for the Democrats.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care! IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

Earth has a lot of ants.
Multiple scribes worked on the same texts among the Dead Sea Scrolls.
Synchronized flashing in fireflies.
A Roman-era mosaic has been found in Syria. Hercules and Neptune and Neptune’s forty mistresses, among other things.
Bought for $75 at an estate sale in Maine, 700 year old page from a missal.
A newly published study of Neanderthal DNA shows that the 13 individuals were members of the same family.
Space, but make it goth!
Skeletons in found in Sparta. There is some evidence they are the remains of Persian ambassadors murdered by the Spartans in the 5th century BCE.
The reality of celebratory gunfire.

It’s been kind of a grumpy week. Nothing really going wrong, but nothing going how I want it, either.
I got my voter’s pamphlet on Tuesday, and an email saying my ballot had gone out on Wednesday. The ballot arrived on Thursday and I turned it in on Friday. About three hours after I turned it in, I got an email saying it had been accepted and counted. One more round of political donations and then I start unsubscribing from ALL the campaign emails.
The futsal — indoor soccer — is over. I am NOT going to miss that bench.
The fires still going to the south are not terribly close, but they are definitely doing a number on the air quality in PDX. I do hope it actually starts to rain this weekend like the forecast has been saying.
Rain — a little — on Friday. Supposed to rain pretty steadily for the foreseeable. It’s October. That’s what it’s supposed to do here this time of year. I hope it kills the fires as quickly as it killed the smoke in Portland’s air.
Somebody tried a vegetarian hamburger place where Sanborn’s used to be. It didn’t last. Now there’s a Thai place in the spot, called The Chomp. My daughter’s ex took her and the kids there Thursday night. They didn’t invite me.
On Friday, I was almost ready to leave to pick up my grandson from school and somehow got my foot hung up on one of my exercise machines. I fell. I picked myself up, decided the owie on my left hand could wait till I got back and went to get my grandson. The practicing has paid off.
My chiropractor says I’m doing discernably better than last month, even. She told me to add a couple of new exercises to what I’m doing. They’re simple variations on something I’m already doing. No problem.
To get to my chiropractic appointment yesterday, I had to borrow my daughter’s car key. I didn’t realize my keys weren’t where they’re supposed to be until it was too late to look for them. I found them as soon as I got home.
