I just viewed the State of Oklahoma 2022 Gubernatorial Debate between the Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt and Democratic challenger State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister. During the debate Joy Hofmeister turned the GOP argument that electing Democrats results in higher violent crime rates into a weapon using the fact that 8 out of the top 10 states with the highest violent crime rates are Republican states and that Oklahoma has a higher violent crime rate than New York and California.
I thought I would look into this information further using information presented on the MSNBC “The Sunday Show with JONATHAN CAPEHART” (3/27/2022) and published on the Wikipedia “List of U.S. states and territories by violent crime rate” page– url:“
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_and_territories_by_violent_crime_rate”. The following information was extracted from these sources just to reinforce Joy Hofmeister’s point.
The following information was presented on the MSNBC “The Sunday Show with JONATHAN CAPEHART” (3/27/2022):

The information presented on the Wikipedia “List of U.S. states and territories by violent crime rate” page provides the following for “State Violent Crime Rate Totals over the 10 year period from 2010 through 2019” for the 10 states with the highest violent crime rates:

The data has been taken from the FBI's Uniform Crime Reports.[1][2] [1] FBI: UCR – Crime in the U.S. reference url: “

I guess the facts are that 8 out of the 10 states with the highest violent crime rates are states with Republican majorities.
