Republicans are running on the big lie that the only cure for inflation is a drastic cut in Federal spending. When consumers look at gas prices and food prices in particular, they see rising prices; and are scared into buying the Republican lie. The truth is that food prices in particular are being drive by climate change; climate change deniers in control of the Congress would actually make things worse in the not so distant long run.

The summer drought’s hefty toll on American crops CNN September 5, 2022

“It was a bad year for corn. And for tomatoes. And for many other American crops. ... American corn is on track to produce its lowest yield since the drought of 2012 ... This year’s hard red winter wheat crop was the smallest since 1963 . In Texas, cotton farmers have walked away from nearly 70 percent of their crop. ... The poor yields are probably more than a one-year blip, as climate change alters weather patterns in agriculturally important parts of the country, contributing to higher food prices that experts don’t see ebbing any time soon.”

Opinion: The 'cheap food' era could soon be over. CNN July 13, 2022

“During the last 18 months extreme weather has blighted farmers around the world. Frost in Brazil, drought in North America, extreme heat in India, Italy, France and Spain, heavy rain in China, and flooding in South Africa have left damaged or lost crops in their wake. Climate impacts are only going to get more frequent and more intense.”

Why Are Food Prices Still Rising? Forbes Sep 21, 2022

“Pandemic Disruptions The pandemic disrupted nearly every part of the food supply chain, including production, processing and retail. Those effects on the food supply chain are still being felt today.

“The War in Ukraine. In the early days of the war in Ukraine, analysts speculated that food prices were bound to be affected. Those predictions have come to fruition. Russia and Ukraine are some of the largest producers of wheat in the world, together accounting for 30% of all wheat exports. But the war has posed obvious challenges for Ukraine to continue exporting wheat. Both its agricultural production and export capabilities have been decimated by the war: Its cargo exports decreased 92% between May 2021 and May 2022.”
