How did the UK get Truss - the UK may be able to blame us or someone else. [1]

This is an expansion of a comment on a story on Larry Kudlow and Prime Minister Truss — good one by Aldous Pennyfarthing www.dailykos.com/...
My dismay results from a discussion with my very irate UK citizen B-i-L. He was ranting about how the US GQP has been ruining his country for years. And Truss was something of a culmination. Why is he blaming the US and the GQP?
Well, it turns out the election of Truss was done under a subtle nuance in British electoral politics. In a general election, each party puts forth their candidate for each seat in Parliment and also indicates which MP will be put forward as Prime Minister if the win a majority. So the voters know who will will.
But in the instance where a Prime Minister steps down voluntarily, without triggering an election, the following happens:
First, MPs whittle the candidates down in a series of secret ballots, whereby the candidate with the fewest votes is eliminated at each round until two are remaining. In the second stage, card-carrying grassroots party members vote on the final two candidates. (It’s possible that it never goes to a final run-off, as was the case in 2017, after May’s opponents were eliminated or eventually withdrew.) Anyone in the U.K. can become a member of a party, provided that they pay a membership fee—which is £25 ($30) for the Conservatives. Time Magazine
You do not have to be a UK citizen or even need in the UK to become a member.
Under the ‘frequently asked questions’ on the Conservative website, the party states that “Overseas residents are invited to join Conservatives Abroad and will be entitled to all the benefits of party membership. Your membership will be administered by Cities of London and Westminster Conservative Association On attempting to join the Cities of London and Westminster Conservative Association, its website states explicitly that: “You do not have to be eligible to vote in the UK to join the Conservative Party or Conservatives Abroad”. ... “As an overseas member, you are entitled to all the benefits of party membership, including participation in the Conservative Policy Forum, attendance at party conferences and a vote in the election of the party leader,” the website adds. Bylines Times
My B-i-L and a number of other UK citizens believe US GQP astroturfers have been signing up as members of the Conservative Party. They believe Truss was put forward and ram rodded through by GQP black money groups.
This is the growing rot globally we may be able to place at the feet of the GQP.
