The Seattle area where we live.

We call this area the Dempsey Lagoon. It’s close to the UofW’s Husky Stadium.

This is our area — like Click’s Plum Island, Appy’s Appy Trails, Ocean Diver’s Salish Sea or Funning Forest’s Pond and other areas we have come to know on the Bucket — all of which others have shared so well.

Now that you can picture the area, especially those that have visited the area, on with the show.

Arriving at a location where we often see Green Heron, Belted Kingfisher, GBH and all manner of ducks, we had no idea of the show we were about to witness.

A river otter climbed onto a log only about 30 feet away from us.

It then swam to a nearby island and used its latrine. We have observed that otters share the same latrine area.

Soon, a second otter joined the first.

Done with their business, they headed back into the water.

Just seeing this was an amazing sight. But more was to come

As we kept watch of where the bubbles were leading, we saw one otter come up with a nice meal.

Otter crunching on a freshly caught fish.

With the help of a good zoom lens and cropping, here are some closeups.

Using the molars gets the job done.

Look at those paws, with claws and pads that can hold a slippery fish.

The fish tries to get away low.

Then the fish flips high to get away. Notice the splashing of water as the otter gains control of the fish.

Another otter is drawn to the fish. Does begging work?

As we watched, another otter came to try its luck. The one with the fish did not relinquish its prize.

And the trio moved on to the next adventure.

Show’s over. You’re on. A challenge to bring a sequence, but all comments and photos are welcomed.
