John in Ghana is dying- I am asking for help [1]

It is not in my nature to ask for help but my friend and co-worker, John in Ghana, is in serious trouble and it is beyond my ability to rescue him. This is literally life-threatening and I don't want him to die.

John is a very poor man living in a refugee camp in Ghana. He is a licensed street minister but his work is not in preaching but rather in helping the poorest of the poor and the most needy in a place with appalling poverty and suffering. He is passionate about helping the abandoned, homeless street children there but he has also helped the elderly get medical treatment and he was often saved single women from homelessness by paying their rent. If anyone comes to him with a problem he always tries to help them.

I have always been glad to do what I can, though my funds are limited so we have to refuse the requests of many who come for help.

John is always scrupulous to document every person we help with photos and with medical receipts and the like because he is aware that many consider all requests for help from Africa as nothing but scams and scoundrels. He is meticulous and careful to prove every case. I am a suspicious person by nature but he totally has my trust.

He is known in the neighborhood as the last resort of those in desperate need. He often goes hungry to help others.

But John himself has had a serious health problem for some time now. He suffers from severe, horrific bleeding from his anus and had literally almost bled to death more than once. We have been fighting this problem for months and I admit I haven't taken it as seriously as I should have. He has insisted that it was hemorrhoids and I had no reason to doubt him. I know little of medical subjects but I never considered hemorrhoids life-threatening.

But he was in the hospital again earlier this month and gave the doctor his phone to talk with me. The doctor said that John has cancerous hemorrhoids but they haven't told him. He said that they are 'tired of him' and are close to banning him from the hospital. He also said that John has had two operations and needs a third one. (He also said that john is very poor Well, I knew that already, of course.)

I was hoping to save up money for John's operation but he is experiencing another massive blood loss and I am afraid that he cannot wait.

When I posted a diary a few days ago about the abandoned three year old girl people offered to help and I deeply appreciate that. I thought at the time that John and i could handle that problem ourselves but since then John has had another health emergency. I just cannot help him. And if he dies then of course everyone he has been helping there will lose their last hope.

So I am gritting my teeth and asking for help for John. Even the smallest contributions can help because right now he has absolutely nothing. If we get enough money for his operation we can save his life and than John and I can continue to help others. But I think John deserves help too.
