your baby at 6 weeks

This is one of the photos from a story in The Guardian today. Using photos from the first nine weeks of pregnancy, it documents fetal development. The six week photo is especially meaningful because that's when fetal 'heartbeat' bills kick in. Not only is there no actual fetal heart at this point in pregnancy, there's no discernable fetus. Up until nine weeks, you see only the gestational sac containing embryonic cells.

I was in shock. Listening to forced birthers go on about the adorable tiny homunculus in the womb has affected even me-!

The story credits MYA Network for the photos. Apparently this is an organization of American clinicians working to demystify abortions.
