These people are our own. Please do what you can.
If helping financially isn’t the right choice for you at this time, you can still help. Tip and rec the diary so it stays visible. Share on social media: Twitter, Facebook, whatever platform you use, to bring the attention of others outside our daily readers. And offer words of encouragement to people who are struggling. It can be scary to be struggling, and it can feel lonely. This can happen to any of us. Today it isn’t me in need. If it isn’t you, either, please see what you can do to help.
And the cat story. Oh, my! As most of you know by now, I live on rural acreage in northeast Kansas. Seven years ago was my last big trapping event, with seven cats and a wolf/dog. I’d hoped I had the area cleared of breeding feral cats. It seems that was only a rest, to lull me into feeling safe. For the last few weeks a black and white cat has been living under my deck. I’d hoped it could move into the garage, where I already have a feral cat, and share the space with Incense. But Incense has other ideas. She didn’t attack the new kitty, but she did stalk it, forcing it into the wooded area Sunday afternoon, and I didn’t see either one the rest of the day.
We had a forecast of nights in the twenties and teens, so Monday morning I set a live trap. Within a couple of hours, I found myself the proud owner of a black and white kitty. Tom or queen? No idea when I’m writing this but I should know by the time this publishes. The humane society I’d always used with the feral cats is no longer doing the TNR program. Fortunately, my vet is a softie for cats, so that’s where the cat is now.
What to name the cat? If it were a horse, the color pattern would be called pinto. I’m not sure that’s a name I’m fond of. I’m open to suggestions. If I can get a picture of this far-from-tame cat, I’ll post those. And post suggestions for names in the comments.
**Update: Female cat, already spayed (thank goodness!) with tattoo. Ear notch, but I didn’t see it in the trap. Possibly someone released her in my area rather than wherever she was originally trapped, which is why she doesn’t seem to know her way around here yet.
