Daily Bucket - Hiding in Plain Sight - Open Thread [1]

A little brown bird is so deep in the shadows, that it can only be seen as a silhouette.

Birds, animals, reptiles and bugs have the incredible ability to camouflage themselves in their environment. This is a basic tool in their ability to survive.

The bird in the above photo looked like a broken branch until it changed position and I saw the clear outline of a head and beak. This bird was very deep in the tree but still had a quick path to fly away if a predator drew near.

The Daily Bucket is a nature refuge. We amicably discuss animals, weather, climate, soil, plants, waters and note life’s patterns.

Spotting birds in trees and bushes can be very difficult because they blend so well into the shrubbery. The same is true of many small mammals, reptiles and insects that are often prey.

Locally, still too warm, averaging 5-10 degrees above normal temps but slightly cool. We are still bone dry not a cloud in the sky. What’s up in your neck of the woods?
