First up: Tomorrow’s Jan 6 hearing in Congress is going to be FUN!
The likely final public hearing of the House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol is expected to highlight newly obtained Secret Service records showing how President Donald Trump was repeatedly alerted to brewing violence that day, and he still sought to stoke the conflict, according to three people briefed on the records. During Thursday’s hearing, the committee plans to share new video footage and internal Secret Service emails that appear to corroborate parts of the most startling inside accounts of that day, said the people briefed, who, like others who spoke to The Washington Post, spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive records and conversations. Former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson testified in June that Trump was briefed on Jan. 6 that some of his supporters were armed for battle, demanded they be allowed into his rally and insisted he wanted to lead them on their march to the Capitol.
x In an interview with CNN, Jamie Raskin said that one focus of the next January 6 Committee hearing will be on 3 people pardoned by Trump between the election and the Capitol attack: Flynn, Stone, and Bannon.

Wisconsin’s biggest paper just dumped on Ron Johnson in a VERY big way:
..He’s a science fabulist who suggested, without evidence, that the COVID-19 vaccines could make the pandemic worse and who repeatedly touted unproven remedies for the disease — from Ivermectin to mouthwash. ...He suggested the government should rewrite the rules for the two government programs seniors rely on most — Medicare and Social Security — making them subject to annual political fights in Congress rather than mandatory payments as promised. For years, Ron Johnson has demonstrated that he should be retired to his family's seaside Florida home — and not representing Wisconsin in the U.S. Senate. Voters should send him packing this November. Here are eight reasons...
The Networks are going after John Fetterman in an absolutely despicable way — instead of noting that he has a complete mastery of the issues, they focus on his stuttering after suffering a stroke earlier in the year.
..Taking a page from the Oz campaign’s especially nasty smears mocking Fetterman’s weight and recovery, cable media has chimed in, too, to give Oz an assist. On Wednesday, CNN ran a segment treating Fetterman’s use of captions, which he’s spoken openly about for months, as a sort of “gotcha” hit piece exposing a disqualifying impairment. NBC ran a piece somehow equating Fetterman’s use of reasonable accommodations for his recovery with revelations that Herschel Walker’s entire campaign rooted in Christian, “pro-life” family values is a lie. Referring to Fetterman’s use of captions in interviews, a CBS News journalist asked, “Will Pennsylvanians be comfortable with someone representing them who had to conduct a TV interview this way?” Other outlets have since picked up on the story, “outing” Fetterman with interview clips of him appearing to stutter. And one NBC reporter claimed that “in small talk” before her interview with Fetterman, “it wasn’t clear he understood what I was saying.” Last month, without any evidence, Fox News’ Tucker Carlson claimed Fetterman is “brain damaged” and “can barely speak.” The media coverage of Fetterman’s condition has descended into a circus, just four weeks out from the election, and, as the group Real Doctors Against Oz has pointed out, targeting the candidate specifically for (temporarily) needing captions is pretty unabashedly ableist. The group tweeted on Tuesday that every year, plenty of doctors taking board exams use “assistance with keyboard tasks, audio rendition,” and “extended testing/break time.” These doctors “are no less valuable or competent.”

Meanwhile, Hershel Walker has no mastery of anything, including the basics of his own biography…
HuffPost’s Jennifer Bendery reported that Walker said he had just learned his mom is “a big part Native American” at one campaign event in May, described himself as “other” and said he found out “a year and a half ago” at another May event, and at a south Georgia meet-and-greet the same month claimed he is “proud to be Black but... I may not be Black” because he had just learned “my mother is part Native American.” At a June 20 campaign event in College Park, he made similar claims but added that he made the discovery using a 23andMe ancestry test. “I don’t care what color you are,” Walker said after stating he wanted to “acknowledge all of my family.” His latest, boldest announcement came at a campaign event last month, but this time he claimed his grandmother was “full-blood Cherokee.” … Walker’s mother, Christine, spoke to the site and said “she has no idea if an immediate ancestor was full-blooded Cherokee.”
Meanwhile, in Florida, the worst person in America may be in a mite of trouble
x the U.S. Department of Treasury is auditing & investigating “as quickly as possible” Ron DeSantis' use of Covid relief funds to transport immigrants from Texas to Martha's Vineyard under false pretenses
https://t.co/gGXjerurzv — PoliticsVideoChannel (@politvidchannel) October 12, 2022
The Treasury Office of Inspector General (TIG) is inquiring into whether DeSantis used the interest earned on funds from the coronavirus state and local fiscal recovery funds (SLFRF) program that his state received as part of Biden’s American Rescue Plan. The intended use of SLFRF was to support state and local response to and recovery from the Covid public health emergency. ...DeSantis defended his decision, arguing that the migrants had intentions to come to Florida, despite having no evidence for such a claim. The Republican governor is facing legal challenges for his stunt, including a class-action lawsuit from the migrants he transported who believe they were purposefully misled into boarding the flights.
x A new South Dakota Poll shows Kristi Noem’s lead over Democrat Jamie Smith has decreased to just 4%. Here come the green jobs, thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act:
CNBC — Honda’s new $4.4 billion EV battery plant will be built in Ohio
Honda Motor and LG Energy Solution on Tuesday said a new multibillion-dollar plant to produce batteries for electric vehicles will be located in Ohio. ...Honda and LGES announced plans for the joint venture and battery plant last year, but had not revealed a location. The facility is expected to employ about 2,200 people, the companies said. In addition to the new battery plant, Honda on Tuesday said it plans to invest $700 million to retool several of its existing auto and powertrain plants for production of EVs. The Japanese automaker expects to begin production and sales of EVs in North America in 2026. The announcements are part of several recent multibillion-dollar investments in U.S. production of EVs and batteries amid tightening emissions regulations and legislation to encourage domestic manufacturing.

U.S. Army base Fort Hood, named for a Confederate major general who led troops into battle against the United States during the Civil War, will be renamed for a Latino postwar four-star Army general. The new name will honor Gen. Richard Cavazos, who is noted for his leadership during the Korean War, when he earned the Silver Star and Distinguished Service Cross for leading the Puerto Rican regiment “The Borinqueneers.” He also served in Vietnam. ...“He overcame racism and other obstacles through his 33 years of service and eventually led the U.S. Army Forces Command, making him one of the highest-ranked Army officials of his time,” the Congressional Hispanic Caucus said in a letter that recommended the late general's name replace Hood's.
Cool Science
Astronomers are delving into the dark period between the light from the Big Bang fading and the birth of the first stars. The light, in the beginning, didn’t last. Everything started out so hot. Pure radiation, at first: drawn from some primeval impulse now lost to the obscurity of over-stretched space-time, hidden behind the wall of fire that seared through every femtometre of an incipient cosmos. There was no source of the light, no ignition point to spread from; it was everything, everywhere, and that everywhere was growing. The cosmos was swelling, space escaping from itself, spreading light across the face of creation until droplets formed: matter was born hot and screaming. The first particles tore through searing plasma in waves, acoustic vibrations spreading and colliding. The Universe was a sea of ions – unpaired protons and electrons, with a sprinkling of helium and other light nuclei – born nuclear-hot from the all-encompassing furnace. The Universe exhaled fire that slowly turned to atomic ash. Positively charged protons and negative electrons spiralled together to form neutral atoms – the first in the Universe – mostly hydrogen, no longer plasma, not ions, but gas. The gas cooled. It became quiet. The Universe rested for 100 million years. x The light, in the beginning, didn’t last.
