I guess it's the Sunset Of Your Love.

To me, this is a heartbreaking and disturbing trend. Some of my favorite celebrities have decided that it is in their best interest to perform Suppuku By Tweet. Wanna know how to destroy a lifetime of work and goodwill? Just complain about being canceled like John Cleese. Claim your freedoms are being threatened during the worst public health crisis in a hundred years like Van Morrison and Eric Clapton. Obscure what has been a good track record of standing up for human rights by becoming a Tankie like Roger Waters. Disgust your fans by making a point to kick the vulnerable amongst us at a time when their enemies want them on the ground like JK Rowling.

Honestly, John. You’re one of the biggest stars of the past 50 years! You’ve been celebrated for being funny and spot on with your satire and cultural commentary since you were a goofy, skinny, cross dressing weirdo. It’s OK that you are none of those things anymore. We all change. But instead of lashing out at something that only MAGAland believes in, why not sit down with yourself and come to terms that you just aren’t that funny any more. I know, it sucks.

Van and Eric. Why not just get together and call it the We Want Our Fans Dead Tour? What part of novel virus with no vaccine don’t you understand? Given the age group that has followed you, they are prime targets. I would think your time would have been better spent staying at home and writing more brilliant music like so many other musicians that we spent lockdown with in their living rooms via Zoom. All we got from you, Van, was what critics called your worst album ever.

Putin. Is. A. Fucking. Dictator.

America has created a lot of problems. But he is not one of them. Those of us on the left have made a career out of identifying problems and looked for ways to overcome or make up for those problems. We get you. But this train is one that will have to leave the station without us. None of us want this war. Most of all the people who are dying. They’re called Ukrainians of every stripe and young Russians too poor to stay out of the military. Try taking their side on this one. I think you’ll find it to be on the right side of history. Just a hunch.

Jo, I hear your friends call you Jo. When did you decide that the Neville Longbottom’s should be harassed instead of defended? Fer christ sake, doesn’t every young person have a hard enough time growing up? Throw in the whole gender thing and I could see how they think the whole world seems to be against them. Instead of making fun of Hermione for helping them, why not spend your power to make their lives a little easier?

I love you all for the careers you have built. You all have helped bring enlightenment, entertainment and beauty to the world. Don’t ruin it by becoming a grumpy old person.
