When you watch a video of someone visiting the Amazon Rainforest, you see how beautiful it is, the exotic animals, and all the other extraordinary life there. When you search for a picture of the Amazon Rainforest, you see amazing creatures and trees. Yet those perfect pictures do not show the true reality. The exotic pictures and extravagant videos of the Amazon don't show the horrifying truth about the life that is dying out there, especially all the trees that are dying out much too quickly. In reality, the Amazon Rainforest is a very important rainforest that is currently being destroyed and could use a lot of help in different ways.
To begin with, the Amazon is a very important, vital rainforest. Many processes and aspects on Earth rely on the Amazon rainforest to fundamentally function and exist. “The rainforest brings rainfall across South America, and much of the continent would become hotter and drier if large portions of it were to be destroyed.”, says Tom Metcalfe (written for many news companies, also is a contributor to Inside Science), along with “The decline of the Amazon rainforest could also affect the global climate, although scientists are unsure exactly how.”. At the very least, “The Amazon rainforest plays an important part in regulating the world’s oxygen and carbon cycles.” Therefore, even if a scientist says they don't know how much the Amazon dying will affect the world, there is still enough proof that it will affect it in many ways greatly. And anywhere you search the question “How does the Amazon dying affect the world?” you will get the same exact answer. The. Same. Exact. Answer.
And for those who do not believe that it is dying, studies and research state otherwise. There are countless other articles talking about how the rainforest is dying, “Malicious loggers illegally cut down protected tree species using forged permits.”, says Dominic Horner. There are many warnings, articles, reports, etc., that each talk about how the Amazon is disappearing far too quickly.
Given this condition and the previously discussed importance, the Amazon Rainforest could very well use people’s help to be healthy again - or as healthy as it can be. The only question now is how do we stop it? How do we stop the rainforest from dying, how do we regrow the rainforest back, and how do we make it so that people can earn money in different ways than cutting down trees?
One way that the rainforest can be helped is by making laws that stop people from cutting down trees. Of course, the people have to earn money for their families to feed them, they must follow rules, and they need houses, farms, etc. But there are other better, safer ways that can be used to provide them with the necessary money. This could include donations and help from the government.
Speaking of the government, another way that the rainforest can be helped is by not voting for Jair Bolsonaro, as the new president of Brazil. Bolsonaro, who is also the current president of Brazil, is one of the main reasons this is happening in the first place. Two CNN writers write that data set to CNN by Observatorio de Clima shows that ” Since he was sworn into office, pro-business Bolsonaro has made significant cuts to Brazil’s environmental enforcement agency at a cost amounting to $23 million.” This proves that he cares more about money than anything else. His lack of action - or lack of action in the right direction - is the reason the Amazon is being cut down.
Fortunately given that presidency is not a permanent throne, his position as president is not forever. It can easily be changed. However, whether a change occurs or not is up to you readers, writers, activists, and, most of all, the people of Brazil. Spread information about Luiz Inácio. Share it. And, if you politically can, then vote for him. Most of the damage done to the Amazon rainforest is irreversible, yet, with the help of a knowledgeable, moral president, it can be reversed as much as possible.
However, not everybody has the power to make laws and vote for Bolsonaro. For those who fit into that category, there is another helpful approach that they can use to help the rainforest: using the Internet. For instance, the Internet can be used to give online donations to companies that support the Amazon and/or help it “Donate to non-profits working to protect rainforests.”, says Ariana Palmieri (founder of Greenify-Me.com) along with “No matter how much you’re able to give, every little bit helps.” If that is not possible, then you can use Ecosia, a browser that helps the environment. “You search the web with Ecosia, search ads generate income for Ecosia, and then Ecosia uses this income to plant trees. So far, they’ve planted over 65 million trees, and counting!”. More specifically, Ecosia makes it so that every time you go on a website, or just search something up, it will make ads and use the money from the ads to plant trees all over the world! This is a serious help to the whole world seeing as they have planted 65+ MILLION trees!
Now that all of those details are out in the blue, three main points are evident. The Amazon is important yet, at the same time, it is dying. It can use a lot of help from people. To help it, people can make laws about cutting down trees. People can vote for Luiz, not Bolsonaro. People can donate to non-profit organizations. People can also use Ecosia and donate to helpful, reputable non-profits. Knowing that, as you go about your day today, remember this. Remember that out there there is an important ecosystem that is being destroyed. Think about the ways discussed that you can use to help or any other ways that you can utilize. Then, start helping. Then. Start. Helping.
