An “unspecified technical problem” prevented 104K voter registration/change files from being transmitted from the DMV to the Virginia Department of Elections. An estimated 40K of those files are new voter registrations.

IT issues stall voter records processing for 107K

2022 is a pivotal year for voters all over the country. The Dobbs decision by SCOTUS overturned Roe v Wade, removing a right for the first time in US history. Voter suppression laws have been passed in several states. Now Virginia sees 104K voter records mishandled in a year where every vote matters!

Early voting started September 23rd. I know because I was voter number 1 in Virginia Beach!

I was voter number 1 in Virginia Beach 2022

One and a half weeks after early voting begins, October 5, 2022, the Washington Post reports about an “unspecified technical problem” in transmission of voting files from the DMV to the Board of Elections. Is this a way to suppress the surge in women and young people registering and updating voter information? As of today, no information has been publicized about where the 104K voters reside. So how does this affect the pivotal VA02 (Elaine Luria), VA07 (Abigail Spanberger), and VA01 (Herb Jones) congressional races? And reporting has stopped on this story. Did someone pull the plug on this news?

We have an election in Virginia every, single year! This year and next year voters will determine who controls Congress and the Virginia General Assembly. Issues are on the ballot include, but are not limited to: women’s healthcare, LGBTQ+ rights, transgender equality, public education, voting rights, renewable energy, gun safety, and more.

We need publicly stated answers about this “unspecified technical problem” now. And, will this happen again next year when all 140 seats in Virginia’s House of Delegates and State Senate are up for election?

I am Susan Hippen, Democratic candidate for Virginia’s House of Delegates District 96.
