Malinowski scores astronomical Q3 haul, has nearly massive $2.8 million still in warchest [1]

Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-Ringoes) had a mammoth $1.83 million fundraising haul during the third quarter of 2022 and has a gigantesque $2.78 million cash-on-hand for re-election bid in New Jersey’s 7th district after raising more than $6 million this cycle.
A two-term incumbent, Malinowski faces Republican Tom Kean, Jr., the minority leader of the New Jersey State Senate, in one of the most closely watched House races in the nation.
Malinowski has now had seven consecutive colossal fundraising quarters since his 2020 campaign, when he held his seat against Kean by just one percentage point. He had raised $7.4 million in total for that race and spent nearly all of hit to win his second term.
Under a Democratic map approved last December, Malinowski’s district has become more Republican, albeit not unwinnable. The new map’s 7th district is Biden +4, compared to Biden +10 currently. Republican Jack Ciattarelli won the new 7th by thirteen points over Gov. Phil Murphy.
Some Democrats think the U.S. Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade will help Malinowski turnout Democrats, and appeal to some centrist voters who might otherwise not have backed an ally of President Joe Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Kean has not yet announced his third quarter numbers. He raised $703,418 in the second quarter of this year and had $1,309,725 cash-on-hand as of June 30 after winning the GOP primary with 46% of the vote in a seven-candidate field.
The current 7th district, which includes parts of Union, Somerset, Essex, Warren, Morris and all of Hunterdon, was drawn to elect a Republican congressman. But in the 2018 wave election during President Donald Trump’s mid-terms, Malinowski ousted five-term Rep. Leonard Lance (R-Clinton Township).
