Merriam-Webster: A grifter might be a pickpocket, a crooked gambler, a scammer, or a confidence man. Grift may have come from graft, a slightly older word meaning "to acquire dishonestly." There should be a word for it by now....https://politico.com/news/matt-wuerker

Look for Part 2 of this diary later today between 4:00-6:00 pm ET Isn’t that the truth? As in the past few weeks, this is a two-part diary. With editorial cartoons both in the text of the diaries as well as ones I usually post in the comments section, you get to enjoy about 90-100 cartoons. Part 1 of the diary has about 30 editorial cartoons. It includes sections on voting, the various legal entanglements of Donald Trump, the disaster that is Herschel Walker in the US Senate race in Georgia , and how Ron DeSantis is bungling the rebuilding of Florida. The final section has old clips of two great live performances and a few interesting tid bits about scientist Marie Curie. Part 2 of the diary has around 25 editorial cartoons dealing with voting, the Alt-Right crowd, the US Extreme Court, the Russia-Ukraine war, and Iranianian women in revolt against the mullahs. In the final section, I found an interesting old magazine cover with the Beatles and James Bond. Thanks for reading and supporting the weekly diary. Please remember to participate in the diary polls.

Voting in the Upcoming Elections

Do your civic duty. Please Vote in the November 2022 Elections Remember to Register and Vote in the November 2022 Elections. If you can, help a friend, neighbor, co-worker, or acquaintance along the way. See this Michael Moore video — I Have Never Felt This Optimistic. In it, Moore say that the best way to ensure victory is “everyone needs to show up and you need to bring 5-10 people with you on election day. That is critical!” It’s time to play offense and work toward a return to sanity and normalcy in the coming months. Let’s See Trump Wiggle Out of Several Legal Entanglements

What will it take to bring Donald Trump to justice? There isn't a shortage of opinions. According to an article in TIME magazine, Trump’s days as an escape artist avoiding the law may be numbered.

The Letitia James Lawsuit May Finally Nail Trump The lawsuit filed this week by New York Attorney General Letitia James against Donald Trump may be the legal action that finally holds the former president accountable. That’s because of four important words: preponderance of the evidence. Trump is under investigation for a variety of alleged misconduct — election fraud in Georgia, financial fraud in Manhattan, his role in the Jan. 6 attack in Washington. But those investigations are all criminal cases, which bring with them the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. In the case filed Wednesday, the standard is the lower one used in civil suits that requires simply proving that the defendant more likely violated the law than not. And for that reason, this suit may be the one that finally holds Trump accountable for misconduct. x I sincerely hope Judge Cannon is removed from the bench for helping Trump obstruct justice & avoid prosecution.#TrumpStoleTheDocs #TrumpIsACriminal https://t.co/NvlTtnZ69g — LA Blue Dot in GA 🌊💔 (@namwella1961) October 6, 2022

Tackled for a Loss — The Herschel Walker Fiasco in Georgia

No matter how much Herschel Walker makes a fool of himself as the GOP nominee for the United States Senate from Georgia, Republicans are coming up will all sorts of justifications to explain his failings. Key members of the Republican establishment will travel this week to Georgia to boost Walker’s candidacy after a week of terrible news stories. Trump’s Super PAC is attacking Walker’s opponent, Democratic Senator Ralph Warnock, to counter the alarming headlines about his candidate.

x Imagine living the life of a coward every day, every hour, every minute guided in every choice not by beliefs but by fears of losing what your lying has achieved. https://t.co/aXreIZJHUE — Lawrence O'Donnell (@Lawrence) October 5, 2022

All of this is happening in spite of the very fact that Walker is totally unqualified to become a member of the United States Senate. This isn’t about standards, principles, or ethics. It is about one and only one thing: gaining political power.

Winning trumps everything else.

The GOP Is Herschel Walker A clarifying glimpse into the values of the Party of Trump Andrew Sullivan: “There are times, I confess, when I decide to pass on writing another column on how degenerate the Republican Party is. What else is there to say? It’s not as if the entire media class isn’t saying it every hour of every day. And it’s not as if the depravity of the party hasn’t been a longtime hobbyhorse of mine. Unlike most of the Never-Trumper set, I was writing about this derangement on the right in the 1990s. I tore into George W. Bush’s spend, borrow and torture policies. I wrote a book on what I thought conservatism really was in 2006 — and why the GOP was its nemesis. I couldn’t have been clearer about what Palin represented — even as Bill Kristol selected her to be a potential president.” “But then you come across the Senate candidacy of one Herschel Walker, and, well, words fail. No magical realist fiction writer could come up with something so sickeningly absurd.” x Hypocrites Clubhttps://t.co/DYjVqGX3e8 pic.twitter.com/alpFSWTqTu — Matt Wuerker (@wuerker) October 6, 2022

Diary Poll

There are many great singers who are not included in the diary poll. Among them are Elton John, James Ingram, Annie Lennox, Michael McDonald, Roberta Flack, Muddy Waters, Susan Tedeschi, Stevie Wonder, Paul Rodgers, Etta James, John Lennon, Elvis Pressley, Mariah Carey, BB King, Linda Ronstadt, Tina Turner, David Bowie, Lionel Ritchie, Don Henley, Isaac Hayes, and I could go on and on.

While you may like all or most of the singers listed, you can only choose one. As they say, life is about making choices. If your favorite isn’t listed, tell us who it is and why you like that singer.

Thanks for participating.
