Today was an almost perfect day.

I got up early (but well-rested), I did most of the things that I like to do in the morning and did not feel rushed doing them.

I was where I was supposed to be when I needed to be there. Early in fact, without feeling rushed.

Took myself out to a nice breakfast, did a little grocery shopping. There were no inordinate waits on the el going into the city or coming back home.

Got to work on time and did my job.

Now granted, I live alone and my life is on the whole, not complicated at all but still

It’s always something.

Usually, I am very aware of when things need to be done because I usually wait until the last minute to do them.

For example, waaaaaay back in 11th grade, I was taking a course at a local college where we were required to do weekly papers. As high school students, we weren’t expected to keep up with the heavy course load and, truth be told, I didn’t...until preparing for the final class of the course.

I wanted to do all of the assignments; the material (American History) was interesting.

I sat up and wrote five 2-3 page papers on a Friday night before my Saturday class.

I felt accomplished doing that but...it’s a very ingrained habit that needs to stop.

Sure, I get the adrenaline rush from working that way and I feel more than entitled to relax after whatever task needs to be done is completed.

But usually when I wait until the last possible moment to do things that need to be done, more often than not it’s not representative of my best work.

(At least I don’t think so.)

Nor do I like the stress and drama that’s involved.

The overwhelming tendency to procrastinate is probably my biggest character flaw and I need to stop it.

It’s for the most part, unnecessary and involves the expenditure of more energy than is really necessary to complete the task at hand

And it’s not like I haven’t procrastinated at all today (for example, this Top Comments diary!) but on the whole, I haven’t procrastinated much at all and I feel pretty good about it.

Comments below the fold.
