Tribal Outreach Director Jerry Gloshay Jr. installs a sign near Lupton on the road leading to the Navajo Nation's capital city of Window Rock.

We visited reservations across Arizona this week to post our signs urging Matriarchs to make sure everyone in their extended family votes. The races are close, and strong voting by Natives will be necessary to win.

In 2020, the Associated Press reported that voting on the Navajo and Hopi Reservations increased from 42,500 four years earlier to 60,000. That is a big deal when Joe Biden won the state by 11,000 votes.

Promoting the matriarchs program on the road between Window Rock and Fort Defiance.

Tribal Outreach Director Jerry Gloshay Jr. and I set out on our circumnavigation of the state on Saturday morning. We went first to the north to visit the Navajo Nation, where most of the votes are. We got back to the White Mountains at about 3 a.m. on Thursday.

People like our signs and we want to thank the DailyKos community for raising the $8,000 necessary for the project.

If you would like to continue to help us, please donate at ActBlue or send a check to Eric Kramer, 1910 Douglas Fir Dr., Pinetop, Az 85935.

Democratic Katie Hobbs has a slight lead in the governor’s race over Trumpster Kari Lake, who wants to use Russian troops to secure the southern U.S. border. You saw it here on DailyKos Lake plan . Like all the GOP candidates in Arizona, we have to wait awhile to see what position on abortion they will be embracing for the day. Hobbs is leading Lake by a small margin.

Sen. Mark Kelly soundly thrashed Blake Masters in a debate last night.

Here is the quote from another Kos piece.

NO, I THINK THERE SHOULD BE A NATIONAL LAW THAT PROTECTS THE RIGHTS THAT WOMEN HAVE TO MAKE THIS DECISION BETWEEN THEM AND THEIR DOCTOR… NOW, I THINK WE ALL KNOW GUYS LIKE THIS. (as Kelly points at Masters and turns toward him) GUYS THAT THINK THEY KNOW BETTER THAN EVERYONE ABOUT EVERYTHING. YOU KNOW, YOU THINK YOU KNOW BETTER THAN WOMEN AND DOCTORS ABOUT ABORTION. YOU THINK YOU KNOW BETTER THAN SENIORS ABOUT SOCIAL SECURITY. YOU THINK YOU KNOW BETTER THAN VETERANS ABOUT HOW TO WIN A WAR. FOLKS, WE ALL KNOW GUYS LIKE THIS. AND WE CANNOT BE LETTING THEM MAKE DECISIONS ABOUT US. BECAUSE IT IS JUST DANGEROUS.

Kelly is leading Masters 49-45. We are beginning to plan an event for him on the White Mountain Apache Reservation.

Democrat Adrian Fontes is on the air with a strong ad against his conspiracy theorist opponent.

We had this banner left over from the Navajo Nation parade so placed it along a fence in Window Rock.

Our Congressman, Tom O’Halleran is in a virtual tie with challenger Eli Crane. At last report, O’Halleran led in fund-raising $2 million to $217,000.

After reaching Chinle on the Navajo Reservation, we spent the night and then headed north, putting up signs along the way. We reached Teec Nos Pos in the far northeast corner of Arizona. It was fun to see directional signs saying Utah this way and Colorado the other. We worked our way across the northern portion of the Navajo Nation and spent the night in Page.

Many Farms is a small community on the Navajo Reservation north of Chinle.

Page is an interesting place, off the Reservation but with a lot of Natives engaged in the community. From there we went to Tuba City, drove through the Hopi Reservation and eventually reached Winslow just to the south of the Navajo Reservation that night.

From Winslow, we backtracked to Dilkon on the Navajo Reservation where we had a chance to put up a sign in front of the new Medical Center. Then it was on to Camp Verde to see the Yavapai-Apache, then over the Payson to visit the Tonto Apache.

On our last day, we visited the Phoenix-area tribes of Fort McDowell, Salt River, Ak-Chin and Gila River. While in south Phoenix, we were able to check in with some property owned by the Pascua Yaqui. Then it was on to the huge Tohono O’odham reservation and eventually their capital of Sells.

It was late at night so we did not get to the main Pascua Yaqui reservation in Tucson, but I’ll be going back there tomorrow. Jerry will be visiting the San Carlos Apache on the same day.

That will pretty well take care of our 100 signs. We will have to get more to place with the Colorado River tribes in western Arizona.

Thank you for your help.

We placed a sign near the new medical center in Dilkon.

A friend at Camp Verde offered to put up some signs so we left three at her house.

The Gila River Reservation near Phoenix has excellent access to the freeway

Though not physically connected to the Pascua Yaqui Reservation near Tucson, the tribe controls this land in the southern part of the Phoenix area.

Keams Canyon is in the sourthern part of the Hopi Reservation

Santa Rosa is a wonderful place deep into the Tohono O’odham Reservation. On this day, they were well supplied with nasty biting knats.
