The Road Ahead?

Led by Germany, France, Italy, and Austria, much of Europe is once again showing a resurgence in new Covid infections, with new cases more than doubling in the past 3 weeks. Fortunately, this has not shown up in the weekly death toll numbers for the most part yet — which still remain lower for Europe as a whole (aside from Russia) than just the US totals. And despite the huge drop off in new US cases over the past 4 weeks, we are still seeing ~400 new deaths per day here, which remains an increasingly disturbing anomaly within the overall global trends. This could portend another problematic season if the US starts seeing a renewed uptrend in new infections following Europe’s lead, so if you haven’t already gotten the new bi-valent (Omicron) booster, do it now while transmission rates are apparently still fairly moderate.
