Because a picture of skin would be less than fun here, have a photo of how Simba decided to help curb spending. Mind you it was the ATM card for my city Democratic Committee (I'm treasurer) but still. Good boy Simba :) :)
Welcome to Monday and to Top Comments! It’s another musical theme night, this time one I’ve never done before… songs having something to do with “Skin”. I know what you’re thinking… that’s an interesting theme, what brought THAT on, brillig?
Way back in early 1987 I was a newly minted BA Biology working in a Rochester NY lab while applying to graduate school. I got a phone call from my dad, letting me know that he’d just had a mole removed and that it was malignant. Truth be told, I wasn’t surprised because that very same mole had his entire family talking when we were together at the funeral of his brother, my godfather. It had turned black and was gross, and literally everyone told my father to go get it looked at. He was scared, and so delayed a year. Which meant a couple of lymph nodes ALSO came back positive for melanoma.
Three years later, in April 1990 I got a call that my dad had had a seizure while driving, and the cause was metastasis to his brain. He died on October 2nd 1990, and yesterday marked 32 years. He’s been gone from my life longer than he was present, and it shouldn’t have been that way.
So yes, this diary tonight is part PSA — please make a skin check a regular part of your self-care, and make sure you have a medical professional check you out too. If anything appears, changes shape, gets ‘funny-looking’ or if you simply have a gut feeling, GET IT SEEN. The life you save by early detection will be your own.
But I love music, as you all know. I still have a ton of my Dad and Mom’s old records in the attic, and I attribute my love of music to having it in the house so often. And now you know why tonight’s theme is SKIN, and without further ado let’s see what I come up with and then what YOU find and share in the comments!
Time to hop over the fold, peruse the day’s Tops, and then get to the comments to chat music and anything else on your mind!
