The Road Ahead?

At first glance, this was another WTF kind of week with the official Covid stats — the US weekly death toll apparently rising for a second week despite a sustained 9-week decline in hospitalizations and an even more significant 10-week plunge in new infections. But at least this week we have a simple and fairly optimistic reason for this glaring anomaly: Kansas decided to revise its cumulative death toll upward by ~500 total deaths. And without those additional deaths (which mostly occurred many months ago), the US would have actually recorded a ~12% decline in its overall weekly death toll this week. Hopefully by next week we should be at or below the 2500 level, though even that is still far higher than what any other nation is currently experiencing.

Special note on Canada — no new updated stats from Canada this week, so pay no attention to their lack of data in this report.
