In a rare moment of honesty, Tucker Carlson criticized the Republican Party’s “Commitment to America” plan for containing “nothing real”.
x Tucker on Kevin McCarthy’s Commitment to America: “It’s fine. Probably not much in it you disagree with. Have you heard of it? No. You probably haven’t. You probably haven’t read it. Nobody really cares. Why? Because there’s nothing real in it” pic.twitter.com/4VnY0jaTGv (via @acyn) — Sahil Kapur (@sahilkapur) September 27, 2022
This is yet another indication that Republicans are unrolling a campaign pledge that is designed to avoid the big issues. Even Carlson can see right through the GOP’s desperate attempts to avoid talking about the real issues that affect ordinary Americans.
Carlson said of the plan, “It’s fine. Probably not much in it you disagree with. Have you heard of it? No. You probably haven’t. You probably haven’t read it. Nobody really cares. Why? Because there’s nothing real in it”. However, Carlson believes that what is wrong with this “commitment” is that it does not address supposed “attacks on the American family”. Of course, when Carlson says, “American family”, he specifically means, “white, Christian family”. The commitment is a cop-out because the Republicans are afraid of owning their role in getting Roe v Wade overturned. In that sense, Carlson is right; the GOP does everything to avoid mentioning how its policies affect “the American family”, or articulating its policy on abortion. Since Roe v Wade and Trump’s return to the national conversation, Republicans have seen their fortunes go off a cliff. While a horrible decision, the Supreme Court’s ruling opened everyone’s eyes to the perils of the GOP winning the upcoming midterms. Abortion has proven to tbe the single issue that has rallied Americans against Republicans. Republicans know it, and so, they have responded with a campaign that doesn’t talk about the single biggest Supreme Court ruling of our generation, a ruling they spent decades striving for.
