As I like to say, this is an essay in a Nutshell. I have greatly condensed the information, and just stuck to the basics, in the interest of brevity. There is tons of information and facts for you to discover for yourselves
I must give attribution to The Encyclopedia Brittannica, and to Wikipedia, and my Grandfather, and my History teachers of long ago.
In 1917 The western Allies ( Gb, France, Italy Russia) were doing well, they were technically winning. but then the Russian forces on the Eastern European front broke.
At the time the Russian army was well equipped, and with a better Rifle, and a capable infrastructure. But they had been fighting since 1914,and the men were exhausted by continuous,and deadly trench warfare.
But an even bigger problem was unfurling at home
in early 1917 The women’s revolution exploded on a dumfounded Moscow with disastrous results for the Russian government , swiftly the Bolsheviks/Communists took over the Revolt ,and claimed it as their own . A Provisional Government was formed but the struggle with the Soviets over who was actually in charge. left the Armies without proper direction. Soldiers marched on Moscow,and added their military power to the Revolution
But much of the Army were still in the trenches and fighting the powerful German-Austo-Hungarian coalition . The Russian troops were now not only exhausted, but adrift, about who was in charge. At Home the populace’ was fed up with a war that the Tsarists had not done necessary preparations for, with no moral compass for the Russians to back.
The continuing degradation,and collapse of the Russian military was now inevitable. And exacerbated by many more foolish military blunders. Which further weakened the physical abilities,and the Psychological health of the Armies.
Ukraine was horribly involved and torn by German invasion, then a war with Poland.
There is a ton of facts ,and happenings, that I have skipped over. Because it would take me days to compile
Ultimately Russian losses were horrific, !.7 million soldiers dead. 5 million wounded, and 2.5 million MIA. But this was in all out International war from 1914, to 1918.
Nothing like Putin’s awful,illegal, immoral war against ostensibly weaker Ukraine,which has caused massive Russian casualties in less than 8 months. And has exposed all the failings,weaknesses ,and cracks in the Russian military, and the callousness of Putin to the non-ethnic Russian Populations of the federation.
Now with Putins absurd desperate and callous Call up. He has exposed and opened the cracks in civilian Russia, and he almost has a civilian revolution on his hands, after just two days!
I believe we are watching a repeat of Russian History, and Putin is too strategically and tactically stupid and impoverished, to correct his path.
