Newt Gingrich Issuing his "Contract On America" One More Time

Politics in America didn't used to be a blood sport.

I’m old enough to remember when Democrats and Republicans viewed each other as Americans who loved their country but understood they had different visions for how to get there. They didn’t view compromise as capitulation. They put the American people first and the lives of normal Americans generally improved no matter which party controlled the levers of power in Washington.

Then Newt Gingrich discovered he could talk on the tellybision for free on CSPAN and used it to jam a stick in the spokes of the wheels of American politics.

Now that the GOP has become the party of the Walking Dead, they're resurrecting the dead carcass of the Great Divider and have asked him to deliver the New Revised Standard Version of his "Contract On America", the "Commitment to America" proving, once again, they are the masters of slogan over substance who know all too well their minions won’t know the difference and will eat this up like pigs at the slop trough.
