LaShonda "L.J." Holloway, Congressional Candidate for the 4th Congressional District of Florida
I consider myself a conservative independent and I am voting for LaShonda “L.J.“ Holloway in the “new” 4th Congressional District of Florida.
History of the Congressional District
In 1990, the Florida legislature drew a district that was shaped like a horseshoe, combining all the “City Folk” neighborhoods in Jacksonville, Lake City, Gainesville, Ocala and Orlando. It reached all the way from Jacksonville to Val Demings’ old district. Florida politicians drew a gerrymander to pack all the “City-Folk” into a snake-like district, or a giant Chinese salamander, the biggest salamander in the world, all bent in a “horseshoe position.”
In 1995, this 3rd District was struck down by the United States Supreme Court as an unconstitutional racial gerrymander.
In 2012, the district was renumbered as the 5th District, but its basic shape remained the same, stretching from Jacksonville to Orlando. It was one of the most gerrymandered districts in the country.
Lawsuits ensued. In 2016, the district was changed yet again. It was drawn, now enclosing Tallahassee and Jacksonville, but only enclosing the “City Folk” neighborhoods from both major cities. Neighborhoods were literally carved in half to satisfy Republicans that “their voters” were “carved out.”
The city of Jacksonville, had its heart carved out into this district, it was like an egg yolk separated out from the egg. Instead of a giant Chinese salamander, the district looked like a Florida alligator, 300 miles wide and going “around” Tallahassee, to the neighborhoods west of the city.
In 2022, new districts were drawn, at the last minute, by Florida Governor, Ronald DeSantis, himself. In Val Demings’ old district area, now completely separated from Jacksonville and Gainesville, near Ocala-Orlando, Democrat Maxwell Frost has just been elected!
Ronald DeSantis didn’t change Maxwell Frost’s district too much, but when Ronald looked at North Florida, and he saw clearly how to change the City of Jacksonville to his advantage in 2022. Ronald DeSantis decided this would be easy, all he had to do was cut the city of Jacksonville directly in half, and then add back all the “Country Folk” into the City. The new district is the 4th Congressional District of Florida.
Congressional Candidates
Now, the legislative race for political representation of cities and towns of Jacksonville, Callahan, Yulee, Fernandina Beach, American Beach, Amelia Island, Orange Park, Middleburg, Green Cove Springs, and surrounding countryside has never been more important.
The Democratic and Republican candidates could not be more different. The new district also has thousands of new citizens, from all over the country, and all over the world.
As of 2020, Jacksonville’s city population was almost 1,000,000 citizens, making it the 12th most populous city in the U.S. The Jacksonville metropolitan area has a population of 1,733,937. The demographics of Jacksonville are very diverse, with citizens approximately 50% “White,” 30% “African-American,” 10% “Hispanic-American,” 5% “Asian-American, and 5% “Multi-Racial.”
The Republican candidate, Aaron Bean, a Christian religious conservative, a Donald Trump supporter, attended expensive, private Jacksonville University, in Jacksonville, Florida, graduating with a degree in finance.
Mr. Bean is a career banker, politician, real estate developer and auctioneer.
Mr. Bean has served as a small-town mayor and city commissioner. He has served in the Florida House of Representatives and the Florida Senate, while living in the tiny, historic city of Fernandina Beach, Florida, population 13,052, in the 2020 census count.
Aaron Bean is a “Tea Party” Republican, who promotes “private healthcare,” and is against the Affordable Healthcare Act. In the Florida Senate, he voted against expanding Medicaid for low-income Floridians. He will vote to destroy Social Security and Medicare in Congress, if he wins.
Mr. Bean has been endorsed by Jeb Bush and the National Rifle Association. He will vote against Human Rights for Women. He believes reproductive rights for women should be illegal. Mr. Bean is against same-sex marriage rights.
Aaron Bean is clearly against economic independence for women. He would force little girls to bear children.
Aaron Bean cut the Florida education budget and promotes “private education.” Aaron Bean promotes The Ron DeSantis Doctrine for Florida. He is a “trusted lieutenant of Marco Rubio.” Aaron Bean is a “Trumper.”
The Democratic candidate, “L.J.” Holloway, has run in this Jacksonville district before, and she is running again. During a debate in 2016, her policies and performance were impressive. Ms. Holloway cares about public service and the rights of all Americans.
LaShonda “L.J.” Holloway attended Howard University, and graduated from Edward Waters College, magna cum laude, in Jacksonville, Florida. She received her Juris Doctorate at the University of Florida, UF Law. Ms. Holloway is a Union member.
Ms. Holloway has extensive federal experience in Washington, D.C. She has worked as a democratic political appointee at the Environmental Protection Agency, the EPA. She supports social justice and human rights. Ms. Holloway has worked drafting legislation as a congressional aide to protect whistleblowers — legislation that was signed into law. She has also worked on agreements with U.S. Customs and Lexis-Nexis.
Ms. Holloway is a health-care advocate and believes all Americans have the right to affordable healthcare.
L.J. Holloway believes women and girls should be able to plan their lives, and whether or not they choose to become a “mother” to children.
L.J. Holloway will support care-giving for Seniors, and protect Medicare and Social Security when she is in Congress.
The choice for Jacksonville, its surrounding neighborhoods and small satellite cities could not be more clear this year. It is time the City of Jacksonville has congressional representation in Washington, D.C. It is time for L.J. Holloway.
L.J. Holloway, for a better day!
