Who can forget the heroic defence of Mariupol that ended on 17 May with the order to surrender of the remaining troops hunkered down in the doomed steel works? Their commanders have now been released in exchange for disgraced pro-Russian Ukrainian politician Viktor Medvedchuk.
This has just been posted by the Guardian:
“In a major prisoner swap, Viktor Medvedchuk, Vladimir Putin’s closest Ukraine ally who was captured in April has been exchanged for commanders of the Azovstal defenders, Ukrainian presidential advisor Andriy Yermakconfirmed.
The Kremlin initially rebuked offers to release Medvedchuk in exchange for Ukranian prisoners of war in April.
