These are some of the prettiest days of the year.

This last week was very sad at the ColoTim household. It started with news that Mrs. Colotim had her knee give out during her vacation to South Carolina last weekend, so she was in a great deal of pain as she made her way home, utilizing an upgraded airline seat so she didn’t have to bend her knee and so she could make it in and out of her seat with as little pain as possible. However, five hours of delay, a wheelchair assist supervisor telling Mrs. ColoTim’s wheelchair assist person to “just leave her” on a darkened and deserted Concourse A at DIA when my wife couldn’t even get to the train to get to the main terminal where I could meet her, plus nobody had told my wife that her carry-on had been checked as luggage instead of put in an overhead bin (and she had literally been the first person onto the flight, so there was no shortage of space to stow her luggage with her) — well, that was a rotten beginning to the week and it came at midnight rather than some time she would have had energy to deal with it. We did manage to find her bag and get her home, but it was after 2AM (4AM Carolina time).

Then, she did find out she hadn’t torn any tendons or ligaments when she had an MRI the next morning, which was good, but they did say her knee has to be replaced, in whole or in part, and she’ll find that this Monday morning (today, since this is written Sunday night). So that was a bit of good news.

Friday, however, was a real low blow. I wrote a diary about it but in essence, one of the kittens we’ve been fostering turned out to have an inoperable problem with his esophagus and that was keeping him from being able to swallow food. His weight never really went up much above a pound no matter how much he tried eating and his nearly identical brother had swelled up to about 2 ½ pounds so he was ready to be fixed and adopted out. Lionel, however, was facing a lifetime of pain and difficulty eating, and the foster organization said the kindest thing to do was to end his pain and suffering by sending him off to the rainbow bridge. Poor Lionel never had a real chance to grow and become a cat and we are greatly saddened by his fate.

That captures much of what was going on around our house over the last week. We did have a dinner party we went to, and I brought fresh-baked rolls to it. I also had a couple of meetings I attended including one on the upcoming Christmas holiday season where I’ll be playing Santa Claus in the town’s parade the day after Thanksgiving as well as at some events around town for some non-profits and town events.

Now, on to some of the other activities in the state.

Did people read about Lauren Boo-boo’s trying to read a portion of the Christian bible (yeah, that book she says she follows all the teachings from) to a group of people and instead of talking about wanton killings being bad, she pronounced it as wonton (Chinese dumplings) and she wasn’t sure what was wrong or why the bible talked about killing dumplings. There were lots of funny takes on that on Twitter (for twits).

From the congressman on the southern side of the state, Doug Lamborn, comes this:

A Congressman from Georgia spearheaded the initiative to pen a letter to the Biden administration this week, joined by a colleague who says that nationwide marijuana legalization poses a threat to the nation’s energy grid. Rep. Buddy Carter, a pharmacist from Georgia’s 1st congressional district, wrote the letter with Rep. Doug Lamborn of Colorado. The duo argued that there are “serious concerns regarding the energy and resource-intensive nature of marijuana cultivation.” The letter also said the practice would pose a threat to the nation’s environmental goals.

Colorado Pols brings up a point that Doug Lamborn apparently missed — Marijuana cultivation doesn’t use as much energy and water as they claim it does, but there’s a much more wasteful form of energy and water use that proudly produces nothing of value, and that’s cryptocurrency. But Lamborn and his buddy don’t mention that. Hmmm. Maybe it’s time Lamborn should not bogart that joint. For more on how awful Lamborn has been over the years, check out www.dailykos.com/….

The biggest private supporter of Heidi Ganahl, Jared Polis’ competition for the office of governor, has apparently funneled 11 million dollars into her campaign, and his name is Steve Wells. The Colorado Sun has the story. Wells made his millions from, you guessed it — oil and gas wells. And ranching. Can’t forget that government welfare program either. It sure seems like Wells has made a lot of money from being able to take advantage of government bailouts when business was bad in ranching programs and now he wants to get rid of Democrats at all levels.

This guy and his herd of fertile females has no worries about any abortion bans in Colorado.

The bull elk in the photo above was causing a bit of an elk jam this evening. If you enlarge the photo and start counting, you’ll notice that he has about 8-9 points on each antler side, so that makes him one of the largest number of points you’re going to see on a male elk. I did stop to take a couple of pictures, but I didn’t get any that had a really clear number of points. Still, he had some thirty of so females with him, plus at least two males with smaller racks that may have been hanging around, hoping for the bull maybe not getting to all of them. As for abortion bans, the only thing elk in Rocky Mountain National Park have to worry about are some culling of the herds because there are too many for the environment of the park.

On that note, I will open up the Open Thread for you to write your comments on whatever interests you. I might be meeting up with one of the Kossacks who occasionally makes it up this way, so if I do, I’ll try and include some notes in next week’s Open Thread. Until then, the floor is yours...
