It is Monday, and I have a case of them. I am feeling it today, after a long weekend of well, not looking forward to Monday. So I will get right to the point!

Although there is no evidence the firm itself intends for this to happen, it seems Gibson Dunn and Crutcher is being treated as a defacto farm system for Republicans looking to be called up to the Big Leagues. Let me give you a list of the notable cases this firm has taken on:

Ok, so you are probably thinking, “Typical monolothic law firm, takes on high-profile cases, huge funding, not unusual.” Yes, like Jones Day, for example. But this particular firm is churning out a stunning amount of ideologues to the Federal judiciary. And that is to say nothing of the Trump cabinet, which I will get to later.

Some of its “luminaries,” aside from Aileen Mercedes Cannon, known for being a Federal Judge of some sort, (and that closes out the nice things I have to say about her) include Ted Olson, who was U.S. Solicitor General under cough, “President” George W. Bush, and I must cough and cough again, as he was the primary litigator in the Bush V. Gore debacle, Senator Tom Cotton from Arkansas, Eugene Scalia, former Solicitor for the U.S. Department of Labor and former United States Secretary of Labor in the Donald Trump administration, and someone that really stands out here, is a man by the name of Kelly Perdew.

Who is Kelly Perdew? Kelly is a man who for some reason went to law school and worked part-time at Gibson Dunn, then for some reason after graduation, decided, “Nah law’s not for me.” One of the more interesting facts about Mr. Perdew?

All of these people come from this one law firm, although to be fair, Preet Bharara does too. I am not saying all of the lawyers at this firm are against our goals, but an inordinate amount of influence has been wielded by people “called up” from this farm club.

Let us look at the people Trump alone “called up” from Gibson Dunn, aside from Cannon herself.

The aforementioned Scalia.

Andrea Lucas, EEOC

President Donald Trump will nominate a Gibson Dunn & Crutcher associate and a former U.S. Department of Justice civil rights lawyer for spots on the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the White House said on Monday.

Justin R. Walker,

Justin R. Walker of Kentucky, to serve as Judge on the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky.

Justin Walker is Assistant Professor of Law and Co-Director of the Ordered Liberty Program at Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville. He also serves as Partner of Counsel at Dinsmore & Shohl, LLP in Louisville, Kentucky, where his practice focuses on commercial and appellate litigation. Before returning home to Kentucky, Mr. Walker was an appellate attorney at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP in Washington, D.C.

Saritha Komatireddy, a nominee for a seat on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. (not confirmed by Senate.)

Nicola Hanna

Former Gibson Dunn Partner Hanna Gets Trump's Nod for LA US Attorney Slot

Sean J. Cooksey, Federal Elections Commission

Sean J. Cooksey, of Missouri, to be a Member of the Federal Election Commission.

Currently serves as General Counsel to U.S. Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri. Since Senator Hawley was sworn in, Mr. Cooksey has advised the Senator on issues including constitutional law, judicial nominations, election law, federal criminal law, and ethics compliance, and he has served as the Senator's lead staffer on the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary.

James Ho-U.S. Court of Appeals

President Donald Trump has nominated two Texans to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit:

Dominic Lanza, U.S. District Judge, Arizona

And on and on it goes. The powerful hand select candidates from this particular law firm, and insert them into cabinet or judicial positions.

They seem to be everywhere. Coast to Coast, from New York to Texas to Arizona, this firm filled judicial appointments, including the most currently relevant one in Florida.

Why does there seem to be a pipeline from certain schools, to certain firms, to certain positions?

Federalists are being groomed and promoted all over this country, and we need a further examination as to why, and how, an express lane to the Federal bench, and Presidential cabinets has developed from this, and a few other large firms. Perhaps limits need to be established, perhaps there has to be an automatic full scale third-party vetting as a matter of course before the Senate even debates.
