Hurricane Fiona, now packing 85+ mph winds, has knocked out power to all of Puerto Rico. The graphic below shows the grim reality of conditions in PR — 100% power outage. Couple that with 10-18 inches of total rain that will fall in most areas of the island and you can start imagining the misery that Puerto Ricans must be going through, all over again.
This is the graphic of current conditions and the future track and strength of Fiona. Winds will pick up to over 125 mph as it heads north in the next 5 days, over very warm waters. It is forecasted to swing just west of Bermuda as a Cat 3 hurricane, so Bermuda will be on alert.
Wind speed forecast over the next 5 days from www.nhc.noaa.gov/...:
FORECAST POSITIONS AND MAX WINDS
INIT 18/2100Z 18.2N 67.3W 75 KT 85 MPH

Rainfall will be in the 10-18 inch range across much of the southern half of the island, some areas will get more than 25 inches of rain.
Rain amounts so far — with lot more to come :(
x The MRMS precipitation analysis, combining radar estimates and rain gauge data, shows over 5 inches of rain already fell across much of Puerto Rico, locally over 10 inches, with plenty more on the way.

The rain bands will unfortunately linger for a long time, adding to rainfall amounts.
x Current flooding potential for #PuertoRico in Hurricane #Fiona highlighted by this HRRR run. Rainband stays parked over island over next 18-24h.
This is why @NWSWPC & @NHC_Atlantic are highlighting rainfall totals up to 25" max over island. This is catastrophic rainfall. #PRwx

River flooding will add to the misery and destruction —
x These are all the rivers in Puerto Rico that is in major flood stage. These rivers are continuing to rapidly rise as the eastern side of #HurricaneFiona continues to pound the island. Some of these rivers are already reaching their records. #PRwx #Fiona pic.twitter.com/wftZJymjZA — StormHQ (@StormHQwx) September 18, 2022
The transformation of Fiona from Tropical Storm to Hurricane. That burst of convection before landfall means an increase in rainfall amounts.

NWS’s colorful description of the prognosis for slow-moving Merbok.
x The storm is the uncle that comes over for a few days, makes a mess, & won't leave. It will sleep on the couch along the northwest coast a few more days, but the worst is over & impacts will continue to fade.

Epilogue
The only saving grace is that we have a President and a Government in place, that has competency and humanity, that the TFG and his party are utterly devoid of.
I will post additional info as I discover it. Please post your insights, tips and useful links in the comments section below.
Stay safe wherever you are. Let’s help out with donations, etc. as many of these regions will need help to recover.
And let’s convince a few more folks to get out and vote for Democrats; that’s the only chance we have to save our precious earth.
