Progressive voices continue to be silenced, canceled
www.bizarro.com/...Where did the Bizarro go?
I'm a long time subscriber to the weekly online blogs of Dan Piraro and Wayno, who together write, illustrate, and produce the content of Bizarro comics.
Their perspective is often eerily sympatico with my own rather oddball sense of propriety and irony, and just quirky enough to pique and hold my interest. And this holds true not just of their comics, but also of their weekly blog content.
If you are also a fan and follower, you'll be aware that the perpetrators behind this nefarious scheme to bring us daily delight are leaning ever so definitely to the left on the political spectrum.
I've been following with some distress the stories (headlines, at least) about the CNN cancelations, for example, but was alarmed when my beloved comical compatriots announced they are being disappeared.
In Dan Piraro’s own words (link above)
Lee Enterprises, a newspaper group that is majority-owned by a large investment firm, stopped running Bizarro and many other comics in their papers this past week. Lee Enterprises owns more than 75 newspapers across the United States and they are standardizing their comics pages with a handful of features they think Americans should read. For whatever reason, Bizarro is one that they cut, even in my hometown paper, The Tulsa World.
I'm not a newspaper subscriber, but if you are, and your paper is one of those affected, Piraro asks that you write them and question their decision to eliminate Bizarro from their regular daily inclusion.
He also provides other avenues for continuing to support their content, and that's the option I'll be pursuing.
It's a small deal, perhaps, in the scheme of things. It's just a comic strip, after all. It's not like it's banned books, or the courts rewriting the First Amendment, but it speaks volumes to me when even our humor is being censored.
Thanks for adding your voice.
