I changed my mind - as soon as I got the nomination. Now let's see if voters are as dumb as I think they are. He didn't actually say it that way, but that's what it amounts to: Don Bolduc, the Republican Senate nominee in New Hampshire.

Via The NY Times:

Right After Primary Win, Bolduc Reverses Support for Election Lies Like a driver making a screeching U-turn, Don Bolduc, the Republican Senate nominee in New Hampshire, pivoted on Thursday from his primary race to the general election, saying he had “come to the conclusion” that the 2020 presidential election “was not stolen,” after he had spent more than a year claiming it was. “I’ve done a lot of research on this, and I’ve spent the past couple weeks talking to Granite Staters all over the state from every party, and I have come to the conclusion — and I want to be definitive on this — the election was not stolen,” Mr. Bolduc said in an interview on Fox News. He continued to falsely claim there had been fraud in the election but acknowledged that the outcome was not in question. “Elections have consequences, and, unfortunately, President Biden is the legitimate president of this country,” he said.

emphasis added

Well at least the press is starting to mention that his claims are false, AKA telling lies for those of us who are not polite journalists.

Also:

While Mr. Bolduc’s reversal was particularly brazen, he is not the only Republican candidate who has tried to temper, or outright erase, hard-line positions as the general-election environment starts to look less favorable for the party. At least 10 candidates in competitive races, including the Senate nominees Blake Masters in Arizona, Adam Laxalt in Nevada and Ted Budd in North Carolina, have updated their websites to downplay endorsements from Mr. Trump or to soften anti-abortion language.

Charlie Pierce on Bolduc:

If you’re still in doubt that, when it comes to major candidates in the upcoming midterms, the pots, stacked one atop the other, are all cracked, this should dispel any wisps of skepticism. As a result of Tuesday’s GOP primary, the New Hampshire nominee for the U.S. Senate seat held by Democrat Maggie Hassan is Don Bolduc, a Trumpist, election-denialist veteran who once accused popular Republican Gov. Chris Sununu of being an agent of Chinese Communists. This pissed off Sununu so hard that the governor flirted with refusing to endorse Bolduc if the latter won. Well, he did, and Sununu has reportedly swallowed hard and will endorse him. Sununu has nobody to blame for this misery but himself. He was supposed to be the GOP’s golden ticket. Hassan is considered one of the more vulnerable Democratic incumbents. In 2016, she (a former governor herself) ousted Republican Kelly Ayotte by fewer than 800 votes. On the other hand, Sununu is a popular legacy politician who had found issues on which he could shrewdly distance himself from a certain former president*. But a year ago, Sununu declined the race, saying essentially that the Senate was a morass to be avoided. This turned things into a free-for-all that conformed to the current Republican mood: Bolduc was cast as the Trumpian outsider (because he is), and Chuck Morse, a veteran state legislator, was pilloried, by contrast, as a tool of the Washington Republican establishment (because, again, he is). Given that choice, it seems, Republican primary voters go for the irrational insurgent every time.

Republican voters have demonstrated time and time again that the only thing that matters to them is the party label and the blessings of the Former Guy. It remains to be seen if they will swallow this spin from Bolduc, or just rationalize it away as “what has to be done to win, because Democrats cheat.”

Yeah, the psychosis is running rampant.

If you’re not a “semi-fascist”, make sure you vote. The world is made by the people who show up for the job.
