"I'll let you know when we take it back." ~ Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell on what Republicans will do to America if the GOP wins control in November
September 14, 2022
Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell
317 Russell Senate Office Building - Washington, DC 20510

Minority Leader McConnell;
You attempted yesterday to convince voters that a Republican Congress would not impose a nationwide ban on reproductive freedom.
At your weekly press conference, referring to Senator Graham's abortion ban bill, you said, "With regard to his bill, you'll have to ask him about it. In terms of scheduling, I think most of the members of my conference prefer that this be dealt with at the state level."
Unless voters parse through McConnell-speak, your response might sound like an assurance that if you and your Republican colleagues gain control of the House and Senate in November and the White House in 2024, you will not eliminate the reproductive rights of American women but does it really?
Perhaps not ----- if we consider two inconvenient factors.
First, the president of a powerful anti-abortion rights organization said you had indicated your full support of Graham's anti-abortion legislation. Now, some Republican insiders say that while it may be possible that you personally support Graham's legislation, you don't want to scare off potential voters by telling them the truth, especially before the mid-term elections.
Second, voters should remember that you justified your refusal to allow hearings for a democratic president's Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland in 2016 by saying, "The American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice."
Nevertheless, just weeks before the 2020 presidential election, you shamelessly flip-flopped and, ignoring your 2016 "people should have a voice" argument, installed Amy Coney Barrett, a republican president's nominee, to the Supreme Court.
So, now, Senator McConnell, what are voters to think?
Will you keep your word on reproductive rights, or will you flip-flop as you did on holding hearings for Supreme Court nominees in an election year?
Your trustworthiness is, at best questionable.
Therefore, before voting for any Republican candidate on November 8, voters should first consider the prescient words of Benjamin Franklin, who said, "Distrust and caution are the parents of security."
Shouldn't we?
With trepidation,
Davy Z Jones
