I know this is a long interview — but Jesus is this guy good. Boy, Hertling is not the only one thinking in Clausewitz terms — but I am not surprised since the whole military thinks “He is the man” — I know this for a fact.

Here are my notes —

He sure has the same instinct I do about “cell phone warriors” alright. Fuck, at one point he even waives his cell phone at the camera — but he says that — somehow — they still maintained good operational security — I sure don’t see how they did. But they must have in retrospect.

And that sure better continue here because it may well be UKR stuck their dick out too far — that they maybe pushed too far too fast (and god knows I don’t believe even Ukraine thought they could have pushed this far this fast) and they may get some forces caught in it. But the instinct is to just keep pushing it. Understandable and maybe commendable.

He and others are saying — we don’t know how many surrendered to the north, but it is really likely there will be mass surrenders for the poor RU bastards caught in the trap with their backs against the river toward Kherson. In the thousands. Is Ukraine prepared for this? It is a really good question — cause how they treat this will be really important along the rest of that RU line.

Surrenders can be really contagious — unless they think you will fucking kill you anyway.

This war-any war — make sure they know you won’t kill them if they do call it quits — I think. To treat them fairly. And most of those kids had nothing to do with the atrocities there. Just stupid kids caught in a real bad situation.

I admit that I have a certain sympathy for stupid infantry kids. They are stupid for the most part I think. And yet — some of us had a duty to get them back home in one piece. Still dumb kids — but not dead dumb kids. I feel that for all the dumb kids on both sides. Cause I had the dubious position of leading some of them a long time ago. A gazillion years ago. I think it is really the big difference between us and the Russians. I looked after my kids and everything else could go fuck itself. To do the deal and get them out. Your responsibility was really for the kids.

Really why paranoia overcomes trust in this kind of deal. To only believe what you know to be true and don’t buy bullshit you don’t know. Maybe that paranoia saved a few kids — will never know.

Boy did Ukraine sure play that line like masters. Not really just a shotgun offensive, more like a double cannister offensive. Jesus Christ did they pop that line.
