Sure, John Roberts, the Supreme Court is legitimate!

Pregnant women are now being thrown in jail for drug offenses and held without bail in Alabama. Using the “logic” that these women pose a threat to their unborn children, the state must take charge to protect their pregnancies. They have to stay in state custody: either in jail, or in a residential drug rehab program.

In addition to this heinous misogynistic law, women in Alabama can be criminally charged for miscarriage and stillbirth if they used drugs during pregnancy and can face up to 99 years in prison.

It seems that police officials in Etowah county are enforcing this Alabama law with particular zeal.

Hali Burns, was taken to the Etowah county jail just six days after giving birth to her son, with police saying that she had tested positive for a drug used by pregnant women with opioid addictions to help manage cravings and withdrawal. When she was thrown in jail, Burns was still physically recovering from giving birth. But the jail had no facilities for her to pump or tend to her wounds. Her partner tried to bring pads and underwear to her, so that she wouldn’t have to bleed into her clothes, but Etowah county authorities wouldn’t let her have them. The risk for infection was great – the indignity was even greater.

Another woman who smoked pot on the same day that she found out she was pregnant was imprisoned for three months, not even allowed to post bail.

Apparently this trend is growing nationwide, with the so-called rights of the fetus overruling that of the pregnant person, leading to what I suspect is the plan to enshrine the rights of personhood to the fetus.

With the zealots dominating the Supreme Court, women are no longer safe in this country. Democrats must win the Senate and the House and pass a bill to return bodily autonomy to the majority of U.S. citizens.
