MAGA Republicans are the new Puritans. [1]

MAGA Republicans are the new American Puritans.



I remember reading about the Puritans in England and in early US History. (Pre-United States. Remember the Pilgrims?) The Puritans took the point of view that if you were poor, it was because you were lazy and God the Father and Jesus didn’t love you. If you were rich, it was because you worked hard and God the Father and Jesus did love you.



The Puritans didn’t seem to mind how you got rich, you could have raped and pillaged for all they seemed to care, just so long as you were rich, especially if you raped and pillaged an ethnic group that wasn’t white and European and even certain types of Europeans were ok to rape and pillage, like the Irish.



The Puritans also seemed to feel everybody was supposed to be miserable and if you did anything that brought you joy or pleasure, unless it was praying to God, it was wrong and you were going to burn in Hell for it. I always thought of this as the “If you are happy and satisfied with your life, just stop it, find something that makes you miserable and do that instead” philosophy. (The Puritans hated William Shakespeare with a passion, they were always trying to get the Globe Theater closed.)



Look at how the MAGA Republicans treat everybody. They are more than happy to cut taxes for the rich. They wouldn’t lift a finger to help anybody with actual need. (They wouldn’t piss on you if you were on fire unless you paid them money first.) Think of any kind of social safety net like Social Security, Social Security Disability, any kind of education, from public K through 12, and any type of University or post University like medical school or law school. They are always trying to cut funding.



Sure they are happy to let you go hundreds of thousands of dollars into debt to get these degrees, because they need doctors and lawyers but just remember, if you weren’t born rich and you you are deeply in debt, you better keep your rich overlords happy or you can’t pay your loans. Look at the hissy-fits the Republicans threw about the student loan forgiveness. The forgiveness was for a single person making less than $125,000 a year or families making less that $250,000 a year and it will only forgive $10,000 of debt.



Many of the Congress members that were complaining were members that received many times more than $10,000 in PPP forgiveness for their businesses. I guess the PPP forgiveness was OK because that forgiveness was for rich people that owned businesses.



Then there seem to be middle class and poor people that buy into this philosophy thinking that they are going to become rich someday. They don’t seem to realize that if the Republicans get their way, the only people with any power or wealth will be the rich (top 1%) white men and everybody else had better know their places.

To anybody that isn’t a white evangelical male that supports the MAGA REPUBLICANS; Do you really think that the MAGA Republicans are doing anything other than using you as a useful tool right now but will dispose of you when they no longer need you? The MAGA Republicans will stab you in the back the first chance they get and smile the entire time because they will be happy to be rid of you. (I personally think the term “woke” is just a new way for the MAGA to say “uppity” without seeming to be racist.)

If you are a white male evangelical but are not part of the richest 1%, you will be useful as an overseer but don’t get any ideas above your station. There will be plenty of prisons for people like you if you are lucky, and plenty of people to replace you after any untimely death on your part.



To conclude, there were plenty of people in France that thought the Nazis had the right idea on how to run the world when the Nazis conquered France. The Nazis didn’t have a difficult time to get the Vichy government put together but I don’t think the Vichy would have lasted long if they hadn’t acknowledged the Nazis as their overlords. This is just like the Puritans in the New World. As long as the Puritans needed the natives to survive, the Puritans were buddy-buddy to the natives but as soon as the natives were no longer needed by the Puritans….well look what happened to the natives all over the New World.
